Hi Everyone,
I have subscribed to this list in the hopes of solving a puzzle.
My husbands gg grandfather was Joseph SMALL b.1834 in York,
Ontario. He was a civil engineer. Between 1875 and 1878 he relocated
his family to Michigan to work on a bridge - I'm sorry I can't be more
specific because I don't know what bridge or what county it was in. In
late 1878 or 1879 Joseph died of Typhoid fever and my family returns
to Toronto, Ontario.
My question is - in hopes of narrowing down where they were located
they had one son born while in Michigan so there must be a birth
record for him somewhere and if sks could help me locate it that would
really help in solving this puzzle.
His father was Joseph C. Small Canadian of English extraction and
mother Emily Small Canadian of Scottish extraction and the child
in question is Herbert Robert O. Small b. April 8, 1878 b. Michigan.
The saddest part of this story is that the family of Emily and six
children her pregnant with the seventh were left to fend for themselves
after his death - family legend has it that all the older children went
to work to support the family - including my husbands g grandfather at
the age of twelve!
Thanks
