I am looking for information on Edward Ernest CALDO (b. Oct 1878 Lyon
France but was adopted by a GALARDI family & lived in Turin Italy) and
Lucille May PERUCHETTE/PERCHETTE/PERUCHIETTI (b. 11 Apr. 1888 Genoa
Italy).
Edward Ernest CALDO went to Alaska the first time in 1898 with a friend
Joe, Ed was 19/20 years old at this time. They were in the Chilcouth
mountain area. He stayed in Alaska for 12 years and then returned to
Nagawnee, (Upper Michigan), USA. to see a little girl he remembered 12
years ago. Joe died in Alaska and never returned to Michigan.
Edward and Lucille were married about 1908 and returned to Alaska.
Annabel was born to Edward and Lucille May in Fairbanks, Alaska.
It is known Edward Ernest Caldo had a gold mine and bunkhouse for other
miners, Lucille cooked for the governor of Juneau. The home, building,
and mine was located north of Juneau on a road which is now closed but
can be gone to by foot. The mine shaft is now closed but has old
engines of some kind on display outside the mine. The home and building
burned down in 1965. During the time they lived in the area there was a
baseball diamond behind the house and midnight ball games were held at
those diamonds, my mother-in-law was born on one of those bleechers
during a midnight game on 9 July 1914.
The doctor had to be called out of a dance to come to the ball diamond
for her delivery.
They left Alaska on the last boat out of Juneau in Nov or Dec of 1920 or
1921, the ships name was Princess .... ?, the 14 day trip would
terminate back in Nagawnee Michigan.
Edward Ernest Caldo's adoptive family, GALARDI, lived in the Saginaw
and St Charles, Michigan areas during the time of his return from Alaska
with his family. There was also a Perchette living next door to one of
the Saginaw relatives who stated they were a shirt-tail relative of
Lucille's.
I am interested in any information and data about Edward Ernest Caldo
and Lucille May Perchette, especially information which could lead to
their previous locations and family connections in France and Italy.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to offer ...
