From the book "Michigan Place Names' by Walter Romig,LHD,

State University Press:
Dunbar, Grand Traverse County. See Williamsburg
Dunbar's, Berrien County: a flag station on the St. Joseph Valley
Railroad
in 1884.
Williamsburg, Grand Traverse County: three families from Monroe
County, N.Y. moved here in 1856 ; the settlement became known as Mill
Creek from the stream beside it; about 1860, with the coming of the
railroad, the town was moved some quarter of a mile south (on present
M-72) and renamed Williamsburg; it was given a post office as Dunbar
on March 29, 1867, named for Eber J. Dunbar, its first postmaster; it
was renamed Williamsburgh on June 18, 1869, shortened to Williamsburg
on June 23, 1894. [PO Archives, Barnes; GSM 1879]
Hope this helps.

Subject: [MIGEN-L] Town in Michigan
Would anyone be able to tell me where Dunbar, Mi was. I'm looking
for info on James John DAUGHARTY born Jan. 10, 1910 in Dunbar. I
haven't been able to get a birth record or any info of any kind. His
father was David DAUGHARTY and his mother was Nellie DAUGHARTY
neeFOLEY. The only other info i have is Nelli was born in Streater,
Il. Does anyone have any idea where else i might find any info? I
think i recall someone saying Dunbar was a lumber or logging town.
Thank You,
Mary Daugharty Lewis
