Using the website that Flora put in her email, I found the the following
Port Huron newspapers that supposedly are filmed for that timeframe:
Weekly Tribune 1883 -1884
Sunday Tribune 1883 -1884
Sunday Commercial 1883 - 1890
Port Huron Weekly Times 1878 - 1909
Port Huron Daily Times 1872 - 1910
But for me to get to the Port Huron Libraries is not possible. Maybe
Flora could look and see when / if she has time.
I will wait to see what Flora comes up with before proceeding further.
Thanks for your assistance,

Hi Flora. Please don't ever think you're 'butting
in'. We can all use any
help we can get.
Bob, I've just about exhausted all my sources and can't find anything online
of use for you. RAOGK has only one volunteer for St. Clair County and she
doesn't do the libraries...mostly just photos of tombstones. I've come up
empty with any old newspapers that are online.
Flora, I'm sure Bob will appreciate your help . Terry in Mich.

Would anyone happen to know the name(s) of the Port Huron newspaper in
1883? Are filmed copies avalable?
My first cousin twice removed was killed in Port Huron at the end of
January 1883 as the result of a vehicle / train accident. I would
imagine it would have been in the Port Huron paper.
The following was an article in a newspaper in Ontario about the accident.
" Bardwell, Mesech, News appeared in Acton Free Press, 1 Feb 1883, page
3, column 2
A Nassagaweya Man's Death
A despatch came from Port Huron on Wednesday last that Mesech Bardwell, 20
years of age, son of the late Wm. Bardwell, of Nassagaweya, while driving
across the railway track on that day, was struck by the train and
instantly
killed. His mother resides in Eden Mills."
{Eden Mills is near Guelph Ontario as is Acton}
