Flora, I'm from NYS so I don't think I'll be able to go to the Library there
in Michigan.LOL Is there someway my local library would be able to acquire
this information? I have an great uncle, David W. Corbin, who was married
to Wilhemina/Mable Anderson, with 2 daughters, Florence and Audrey, but they
all "disappeared" around 1940 (hopefully they'll be on that census when it
comes out in April 2012). I found Wilhelmina and daughter Audrey in
California in the 50's, but never found David or Florence, so I began to
think maybe mom and dad divorced. Your help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, I subscribe to the digest version of this forum so missed yesterday's
messages.
Anyway, I used the divorce index several years ago. After searching the
statewide index (which I believe includes a county "code"), I then went to
the summary microfilms and got what I wanted (date, record No. )
If I might suggest: you might want to post questions such as this on the
Michigan genealogy facebook site. The library's staff usually monitors that
site and they can give you a more definitive answer.

Could someone explain in more detail? I went to the Library of Michigan
And saw that they have the Divorce Index mfm 565.D58 for 1897-1969 as well
As the Summary mfm 567.D57 for 1897-1922
[
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/hal/hal_lm_Vitals_174109_7.pdf].
What does the index contain? Does one then have to consult the county
Where the divorce took place to get a copy of the divorce decree?
What does the Summary contain?
Is there a cost (contribution) for the state librarians?
Thanks for any info. --Doug

Good morning, Liz. I can try and answer part of your question (and
get you started).
The Library of Michigan has on microfilm a statewide divorce index for
the years 1897-1923.
You can submit a request to the librarian on the LofM's website and
ask them to do a lookup for you, unless some researcher who monitors
this list is heading up to Lansing in the next week or 2.
