Flint is in Genesee county in Michigan. Here is the site for the Genesee county offices.
You would write or call the county clerk for that information IF, and that's a BIG IF,
they have records from that era. Many times, in that area, forest fires destroyed whole
cities, as did city fires. Flint would not have been very big at that time, but only they
would have that information. You may not ever find the records or the burial site.

Bless their hearts they do have both a link to the clerk's office, and they have a
search engine there for records by name and date! Try those, and if you find nothing,
contact them to see if they have anything at all from the era you're looking at.

Hi Listers
I have been trying to find the death of John HOLGATE who left England for
the US sometime in 1840-1850. His son Alexander Lindsay arrived there in
1847, and in Rockwell Kent's autobiography "Oh Lord It's Me" he wrote
the
Alexander followed his parents to Flint Michigan. Alexander Holgate was
Rockwell Kent's (artist) grandfather.
I found the following:
Births, Deaths, Marriages and Obituaries .

620.
Category: Birth, death, marriage notices
Died :
On the 20 ult, at Flint Michigan, US, Mr John Holgate formerly of this city
State Library NSW Online Indexes - Gale Newspapers
making his death 20 Sep 1854.
Cannot find any John Holgate deaths on the wonderful websites mentioned
and am wondering where can I go to find his death and burial- also that of
his wife Sarah.
Have loads of info on their son Alexander, who ended up in New York, thanks
to Rockwell Kent's books.
