The last time I went to Detroit, I was summoned for Jury Duty. My husband
was born & raised in Detroit and he will not allow me to got there. No, I'm
not brow beaten just defer to his judgement (on occasion).
If you do decide to go, be hyper-vigilant!
Regards,
Joyce

I'm sorry you have such a negative view of Detroit. Yes, parts of it are dangerous but the New Center area is great to visit. You can take a boat down the river and there are lots of great restaurants. The Detroit library has lots of genealogical resources and the Institute of Art and historical museum are fun to visit. Just take proper precautions and enjoy your visit.

I was born and raised in Detroit. I went back the last two years, mainly to
go to the cemetery in Port Huron. I recently read the book: "Detroit: An
Autopsy." There is no place in Detroit that I would feel safe. There is
too much corruption and crime. You could go to Henry Ford's Green field
Village, but that's all I could suggest.
Sorry!! One man up there told me that the city would not come back in his
lifetime. I understand that the Governor has appointed a City Manager to
CLEAN the city up.
