Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Cynthia,
Do not be confused the DD&B institute was not a confinment place. In fact parents of children were expected to contribute. Some paid in money others in produce, slaughtered animals or other services. To the best of my knowledge there was not a set pricing structure it was a pay as you were able. Some of these children did not stay all the way through high school, some left once they had learned enough to be productive in society. My relations both went there when they were 13 and 14 and both left at 18. She was from Bay County and he was from Osceola County. They were both born deaf and after leaving the school they were married when she was 19 and he was 20. They had 4 children and the deafness was not passed on. This was not a run of the mill type school like those confinment centers that we older folks know all about. Even back then there was compassion and thoughtfulness by a lot of people. I too, am glad those days are gone though.

Thank you Tony. Thank goodness those days are gone. I have a grandson who
is learning to sign because he has Down syndrome and will need to
communicate well as he grows up. He is just 18 mos. old and such a dear
baby boy! I adore him. I'm glad that Ds children are no longer
institutionalized as they are truly a gift to be shared. I learn so much
from him about myself.

Cynthia,
Sorry, that was from the day when we were not as politically correct as
today and worried about people filing lawsuits. DD& B, was the Deaf, Dumb
and Blind Institute. I had some relations who went there as well. They
were deaf, but learned to speak and read sign, as well as make it through
high school classes.

someone can help to decipher the following that was found on a Flint,

It was located in the 4th Ward, City of Flint. Unfortunately there is no

Star,
I spoke with the Archives department from the Michigan.gov site on the
phone. The gentelman advised me that if I can't find Henry on the index on
the site, the chances are very slim that there is any information in their
Archive on him. He also sugested checking on the Castle Gardens sites for
immirgartion.
So I will continue to look at the index and see if I can find him. Also, I
now have some new info. One censes shows that Henry came over in 1870 and
another shows 1867,
Thanks again for the help,
Barbara

Hi Star,
I think I just need to contact the right person.
I called yesterday and left a voice mail message at the Archives office. I
haven't received a return call yet, but with the time difference, I probably
caught them after they left for the day. I'll try again Monday. I'm sure
they can either help or direct me to someone who can.
As far as finding them in the index, I will admit that when it comes to the
computer, I am not thesharpest blade in the drawer. So, I haven't found
anything, but, that is most likely my own fault.
I'll keep looking.
Do you have any idea of the costs involved. I'm happy to pay for the
service, but, need to have an idea before I OK a go ahead.
Thanks for your help,
Barbara

Star,
Thank you for your efforts. Yes, I have seen this site and the indexing. I
wrote a note to the library and they said that I need to come in. I can't do
that since I live in California. But, I will keep seaching the site for
ideas, I may have contacted the wrote person.
