I found her! The image in the 1910 on Heritage Quest is really bad, but I
thought I had her and then I found her in the 1920 as a 16 year old girl by
herself! I believe her parents could very well be deceased since I do not
find them in the 1920

Hello:
I thought maybe I would try to help you. I wasn't sure if you knew but the
Censuses that you speak of (1910 and 1920) are listed head of household
only. Therefore the only way to find her as a child would be to go through
EVERY Randolph household in the census and look for her and Randolph is a
pretty common surname.
To lower it down people try very hard to figure out what county to start in
and then you might try to figure out if she had any siblings that might have
gotten older than her and been their own head of household sooner and then
maybe she lived with her parents nearby. You would do this via obituaries
(for relatives both alive and deceased to help identify her and for places
of her birth and etc./death certificate information (for the parents' names,
places of residence and birth as well as who the informant of the
information on that certificate)/funeral home records/bible
information/marriage records/family lore, etc.
Sometimes if you supply what it is that you do already know, some of us
volunteers can glean things you might not suspect out of it and come up with
some help.
For instance:
These are the 96 Randolph's in the 1910 Census per Heritage Quest (and
remember there are most likely Randolphs that were hard to read and didn't
come up in the index spelled correctly)(The 1920 has 132 heads of households
for Randolph)
I have made it through all of the Randolphs who have a first name with the
letter "A" and have not found her. But I will keep trying. Wish me luck.

Hi Everyone,
Could someone please try to find (Barney?) Lulofs and wife Esther (b.1903)
in the 1930 census?
I am not sure about his first name but think it may have been Barney. Don't
know which county, possibly Muskegon County.
Thank you in advance,
Paula van Huijstee-Kommer

Hi Listers,
I am looking for Esther Randolph, born July 1903. Don't know which county.
No idea who her parents were, I hope to find that out through the census
information.
Esther would be 7 years old in 1910, and 17 years old in 1920.
I realize this is not much to go on, but I hope someone out there can find
her for me.
THank you in advance,
Paula van Huijstee-Kommer

Hi Listers,
How would I go about finding out whether someone was divorced between
1883 and 1889 in Michigan. The couple was married in Leelanau,
Michigan. I have checked the church records which is how I found 2
possible marriages. Since the church communion attendance seems to show
both wives, I suspect he divorced the first wife.
Thanks,
Karen

I am trying to find the exact death date for a great uncle Julius JESCHKE,
who was buried in Van Buren County in 1945. His tombstone only reads 1862-1945.
I very much would love to obtain an obit and death certificate, but need a
closer date.
He is buried in Robinson Cemetery near Gobles. There is no phone number for
this place on www.switchboard.com
Any ideas?
Sincerely,
Katherine

How many times have you come across an obituary or family story that has
said Joe Ancestor was born in Obscure Place, Michigan? You have never heard
of it and have no idea of where it is at. So small it doesn't show up on
most maps, so you are off on another quest to solve a mystery before you can
get to the goods in your research.
In celebration for our 4 year site anniversary we have just added a new
database called Michigan's Place Names to our site that may help.
http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/mi_places/
83 counties, 1,245 townships and over 5,000 places to search through, and
still growing.
Each place shows the county and township when known.
As with all of the data on the site it is free to use for your personal
research. You can surf through the pages or do a simple partial name search
to get to what you need if you are short on time.

I did that and the request form they from Sandusky Vitals send is a look up
and it will be very costly. It is 15.00 and for every three year extra is
3.00 mine would have been 35.00 I had the library do some stuff but they
don't have much. Look at the General Web Page for MI and they have some but
not a lot
www,rootsweb.com
and go to genweb and then click on the states list.
Michelle,
I missed the married 1 year part. Now that means maybe they were married in
the same county and the year of the marriage was about 1909. Hey that is a good
clue. Maybe this genealogy is catching on for me..

Yes that is them, at least I have something that is getting closer to him
being in a county maybe that his parents were in and him as a child.
I don't have a marriage date for them so it would be hard to guess how long
he was single before he got married. Then from there I may be able to look for
him maybe living with his parents.
Although he was quite old when he married.. and that means he probably didn't
live with his parents at that age but maybe stayed close in the area of them.
Wow what a puzzle to work.
Thanks for taking the time to look this up. At least I didn't have this piece
of information and I can add it to what I already do have. Have a great day!

No that is not my Daisy BROWN. She was born March 7, 1893 in MI., don't know
what county though.
Her parents were William Murray BROWN and her mother had gone by the name of
Hattie. However I found that her real name according to Census Records and the
children matching those of hers plus marriage information that her name was
Olive Adalade JONES, married on May 17, 1885 in Ogemaw, MI.
So maybe that is a clue but I have looked in sites for Ogemaw,MI for James S.
McCollum/McCallum along with brother John and sister Mary and still no luck
finding him as a child with his parents.
What do you think?
=====================================================
But you made me think of something else and that is the place in MI that
James may of died in.
Her first born James Murray McCallum was born in Prescott,MI in 1909.
I know my grandmother Francis was the 4th child was born in East Tawas, MI in
1916.
The last and 5th child Marguerite Lucille McCallum was born Dec. 28, 1918 in
the same year James S. McCallum died.
Since it was only 2 years difference of the 4th and 5th child maybe it's a
good possibility that he died in East Tawas, MI.
I will have to see if I can find anything there.

Hi,
Thanks for the information I appreciate it a lot. I was just wondering is
there a library that I can email that does look ups for obits?
That would be a good place to start since I have the birth and death dates. I
don't mind paying for the information either or I am willing to pay for
anyone who lives near the library or can do a research there in MI for me.
Thanks again for your suggestion.
God Bless
Pam
During all of my questions I had put out to the list it reminded me of
something I had found a while back.
At first I thought found my James McCOLLUM on an immigration ship that I was
looking for but the family information taken from the ship didn't match. I
however held onto the information thinking there must be a link.
Now after getting it back out I can tell there is no link at all. I was
blinded that even though these 2 men have the same birth year and name it would be
impossible for them to be the same James I am looking for since on the ship he
was 37 years old married and had a young daughter. My James was 28 when he
married for the first time to Daisy BROWN in Michigan. I guess it was hopefull
thinking.
I was thinking maybe my James married before and went back for a visit and
something must have happened to his family in LA., and he moved on to Michigan.
But I kept thinking this must be my James because of the same birth year. But
I failed to remember he married Daisy at age 28 in MI and on the ship that
James was 37 years old.
Boy I sure was blinded because I wanted it to be my James so bad so I could
finally put some pieces together. But it wasnt' until I got it back out again
did I see my mistake.
I hope this is of some use to someone out there.
So here is the information on the Ship Manifest from the Ellis Island on-line
if anyone would like to have it.
White Star Line Date of arrival - August 31, 1902
Port of Departure - Liverpool,England,UK
James McCOLLUM age 37 Married * US Citizen * Last Residence-Ballygawely *
Seaport for landing in US- New York * Final Destination - New Orleans,LA
His wife name is Mary McCOLLUM age 37
Daughter's name is Lucinda age 4 years old.
God Bless
Pam
When it comes to out of the US I am lost. If anyone can tell me where how to
get started in searching for James S. McCollum/McCallum parents and siblings I
sure would appreciate it.
James was born in Michigan in 1865 and died in Michigan in 1918 but have not
been able to locate anything that would lead me to his parents.
James father was born in Scotland and mother born in Ireland. I was told by
their grandson that he only knew that her last name was either SHARP/SHARPE and
she spent a lot of time in Northern Ireland.
How in the world do I find a connection with such little information. If only
I could find James as a child in Michigan something should list him there
with his parents as a child, wouldn't you think?
Then I would find the names of his father, mother and siblings, right? Oh I
do know the names of some of the siblings, John & Mary. I even have pictures of
them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
God Bless
Pam
