Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Hi All!
Just got another bunch of new items moved and totally overhauled for the
Livingston County MI website. Sorry for the duplicates, please delete
extras. The main site is www.LivGenMI.com
Fowlerville Review, Fowlerville MI Extracts that cover 1874-1879 including
Births, Deaths, (both inside & outside the county....those outside the
county cover VAST areas around the state of Michigan) Marriages, &
Miscellaneous News.
www.MemorialLibrary.com/MI/Livingston/FRE
WWI Honor Roll Book for Livingston County MI - absolutely tons and tons of
data and many of the short bios cover the parents and the birth towns of the
soldiers that were included. Be sure to check ALL of the branches of the
service, as it appears there seems to be no order as to where a soldier is
included. Many local committees included also.
http://www.memoriallibrary.com/MI/Livingston/WWI/
Another newly redone item is the 1920 graduating ??? class for Howell High
School. I redid the photos which before were very dark and hard to see in
some cases. Now they are cleaned up and I think much easier to view. I have
also resized them so they download easier too.
http://www.memoriallibrary.com/MI/Livingston/HS1920/
I am working as fast as I can to get all of the old stuff into new folders
so they are easier to search and that way I can start to add all the new
data I have here for the county. I think from the few people that I have
shown some of the new items those researching in Livingston County MI will
again see that this site is without a doubt the first & BEST site for
information on this county.

This is a reply for June Rupp. I emailed separately but do not know if you
received the information so I will post to the list.
I do not have access to census images but while at the public library I did
a quick look at the 1880 census found your Gentleman family living in New
Jersey,
It does appear that they were in Michigan during the 1870's.
1880 census;
Ocean,Monmouth, New Jersey
P.F. Gentleman; age 35 b: 1845 Scotland, Occupation: Gardner
Maggie Gentleman; age 30 b: 1850 Scotland
Alice Gentleman age 10; b: Nova Scotia
Jennie Gentleman; age 07, b: MI
Maggie Gentleman; age 05, b: MI
Clara Gentleman; age 03, b: NJ
I hope this helps.

The Marquette Co. MIGenWeb site has changed it's address and has added
material to be used by researchers.
New files are being worked on to be uploaded. New links to files already
online for Marquette Co. researchers have been included such as:
Military records that are online - many for the Civil War, Spanish American
War, and links to others online
Researcher submitted births and deaths
High School Yearbook indexes -
Research mailing addresses are going online - much more to come
The Ross files for Marquette will be coming along with historical articles
next.
I am organizing and copying files that need to go online. If you have a
resource or want to help get files online by typing contact me after reading
the volunteer page, please.
Contact for the site is: marquette(a)mifamilyhistory.org
The mail list is back and people can now sign up for it to discuss their
research questions and help others. Please subscribe to the Marquette mail
list and get acquainted.
Places for visitors to submit their family obituaries, biographies and old
pertinent news articles will be coming soon to be kept with the site for the
future.
The site has two starting points in case the internet is messed up, as it
tends to get occasionally.

HI! Someone asked if the newspapers being scanned would have to be viewed through a subscription program. The answer is no no no no no. I have found some use in those services like viewing census records but I fully believe in FREE and sharing with everyone! I was, and still may, put them on Rootsweb. When I found the Making of Modern Michigan project, part of the project is that they will do the web hosting. When the first ones go on line, I will let everyone know where to find them!

Additionally, I am very pleased with the hits on this web site. Since
joining AHGP and ALHN March 4th, I added the new counter set for that date, there
has been near 500 hits in 5 days. Quite an improvement!!

I am excited to tell you that we will soon begin scanning the Middleville Sun newspapers! I will be doing the work myself with the support of the TK Middleville library and the Making of Modern Michigan Project through Michigan State! I am scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks. At this point I have no idea how slow or fast the scanning will go. The location is also about an hour away from my home. I will do what I can to get them on line as soon as possible and I will keep you informed.
Thanks to all for your support and keep watching the web page for updates!

In a previous posting to this list by the State Coordinator of the
MIGenWeb, she stated that my genealogy
pages were moved to a different site (in particular, the one for Branch
County, MI) - - the actual truth of
the matter is that they have *not* been moved, they are on the same
site/server where they have always been
on all these years and they will always be there for you, the researcher!
I'm of the opinion that the pages and content are no longer safe from
commercial entities while associated
with GenWeb, but are as safe as is possible with the ALHN and AHGP
organizations, therefore I have
disassociated them from the MIGenWeb group.
Once again, the entry address to all 10 of my Michigan counties is:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5666/index.html
Thank You, and Good Hunting!!

Marquette
Oscoda
The entry address to any of these counties is:

As any of you may have seen lately many many people are bailing on what once
was a great project BEFORE the self ruling advisory board nominated
themselves to sainthood and crushed all those of us who put the data on line
JUST to help the researchers!
MIGenWeb has gone down the toilet, getting worse each year for the last 4,
so I pulled Livingston and I was the first county chosen in MIGenWeb so it
REALLY hurt when the state coordinator FORCED me out by ridicules lies etc.
If you want to read the whole story, go to www.LivGenMI.com I fear as the
rules get more oppressive, many will leave. Sadly because of all the fake
p.r. out there by the corporate entity that now owns all of Rootsweb and
USGenWeb and hosts it only for the millions that it brings in by people
clicking on their pay per view sites advertised all over every page. The
billions it makes by this more than covers the bandwidth of the remaining
old gen project.
People do not really understand what is happening and know about the GREAT
sites like www.ahgp.org, www.ALHN.org, my MARDOS Memorial Library at
www.MemorialLibrary.com and of course our server of choice www.USGenNet.org
the first & ONLY 501(c)(3) host for genealogical & historical sites.

Subject: [MIGEN] Berrien County Genealogy IS still online!
Greetings Listers,
I want everyone to know that I have not taken my jacks and left the
playground. While the Berrien County Genealogy Project
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mi/county/berrien/ is no longer affiliated with
MIGENWEB or USGENWEB because of
it's overzealous grasp on the CCs and web sites we work hard to put out
there
for genealogists AND because I disagree with that club's forever changing,
weakly interpreted by-laws.
Additionally, I have NOT discontinued nor abandoned the MIberrie-L mailing
list at rootsweb, as indicated by the simultaneous start up of a Berrien
County
mailing list at Yahoo (connected to my old web site at USGENWEB) and my
resignation from USGENWEB. Ask the USGENWEB Michigan State Coordinator,
Jan
Cortez, MiBerrie-L is still there. She had the sudden urge to join the
Berrien-L
mailing list (?!)within minutes after I resigned from USGENWEB (why the
sudden
interest in Berrien?).
The Berrien County Genealogy Project is now affiliated with ALHN.org and
USGENNET (501(c)(3) non-profit) which are great projects, interested in
keeping
genealogy FREE.
So, to all of you who may be feeling a bit frustrated by your present
servers
or FOR PROFIT affiliations, come over to the "sunny side" as the song says!
