Pritchard Cemetery located in Sumner Township, Gratiot Co. has now been read
and is online. The people buried here are not all Sumner Twp. residents.
Some resided in other counties and townships that have been checked.
http://www.mfhn.com/gratiot/sumner/pritchard/
Hoping to get with the township clerk in the next few weeks to go through
the card file to get plot numbers and also catch the burials that don't have
stones.
Have to take the winter off from reading cems. Winter has raised it's cold
head and I finished this one up just in time. Will get back at it next
spring. Still have many county cemeteries that have not been read in over 70
years.

Greetings Family Researchers:
My apologies to my fellow Listowner if he/she deems this message to be

would agree this message falls into the acceptable range.
The free-access Northeastern Ontario Canada Gravemarker Gallery website (link is
below signature) has attracted a lot of attention in Canada and for Americans
who are subscribed to Canadian Rootsweb mailing lists. This site is ongoing and
contains over 45,000 photographs af ALL gravemarkers in ALL cemeteries in Parry
Sound and Nipissing Districts [County equivalents]which covers a large area in
Northeastern Ontario. Currently, I am working on Renfrew County and Sudbury
District and when complete the site will constitute a huge coverage of the
inhabited lands in Northeastern Ontario and will continue to be a valuable
resource for genealogists.
Please visit the site and pass on the URL to any "transplanted Canadians" you
may know, whose ancestors came from this area of Canada.
Good luck........................Murray Pletsch

Grace Esther RYERSON was adopted by Tunis RYERSON and Rose ANDERSON.
She married Samuel Edward DAVIS on 27 Oct 1887 in Cook Country, Ill (I have
not located marriage cert). She died in 1916 (don't know birth).
Tunis was born 1828 Paterson, NJ and died 1871 Elgin, Kane, Illinois (buried
at Graceland Cemetery) (I have his family history). Rose was born 1835
Quebec and died 1904 Bloomingron, Ill (had remarried to Robert
Forrester)...don't know when and where Tunis and Rose married. Tunis and
Rose owned the Muskegon Boom Company in Muskegon Michigan at one time.
Anyway, trying to find out more about Grace such as her birth and her
biological parents (she was my Great Grandmother). My Grandma claimed to be
part Indian (Cherokee I think?)...don't know if that would have come from
Grace (we have no obvious Indian characteristics). Also don't know if she
was born/adopted in NJ, Michigan or Illinois (or elsewhere) and don't know
how to go about finding adoption records (or if there would even be any for
that time period).
Can anyone help?

Hi,
My Mom's cousin Hettie Cree Crippen moved from Pennsylvania to Michigan. Mom
used to write her at Pleasant Hill, Michigan. I have not been able to find
Pleasant Hill in Michigan. Does anyone know where it was?
Thank you.
I recently read an email about the information available at the Detroit
library for researchers. I am trying to locate more information on a
relative who is buried in my local cemetery, but lived and passed away in
Detroit. He was a WWI veteran. (My great great grandmother, Estella Blanche
Hiney Knapp Strauble Shurter is his sister. He is buried next to her. This
is the information that I have:
George Vance Hiney Michigan SGT ORD DEPT September 28, 1888-February 27,

His obituary from the Ironwood Daily Globe of Feb. 28, 1945
WORLD WAR I VET DIES IN DETROIT
Funeral of John Hiney to Be Held Saturday.
John Hiney, 56 year old World War I veteran, of Detroit, died after an
illness of a few hours, at the Ford hospital in Detroit, on Tuesday morning
at 4 o'clock.
The deceased, who served overseas for 18 months during the last World War,
has suffered various complications of the effects of war throughout the
years, and has not enjoyed perfect health.
He was born in Thomasville, Mich. On September 28, 1888. (I believe the
birthplace should be Thompsonville.) After the war, he settled in Detroit,
and for the past several years he has been employed at the bomber plant in
Ypsilanti.
He is survived by one brother, Ray Hiney, of Marquette; and four nieces,
Mrs. John Mattson and Mrs. Hiley Randall, both of North Ironwood; Mrs.
Arthur Hamel, of Champion, and Mrs. Angus Vincent, of Bergland.
The remains will be brought here from Detroit on Friday.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Moore Funeral home on Sarturday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J.H. Oatey will officiate and interment will
be made in the Wakefield cemetery.
The Moore Funeral home will be open to those who wish to call from Friday
until time for the services on Saturday afternoon.
I am hoping that someone can obtain a copy of the obituary which may have
been published in the Detroit area. I would also appreciate any direction
to help me obtain his military records.
Thank you very much;
Connie

Desperately searching for any information on Samuel William Kendall, who was born Abt. 1864 in Deloraine Manitoba, Chatham Ontario, or Detroit, Michigan. (Still working on this with no luck at all). He married Marguerite Victoria Robinson December 12, 1893 in Deloraine, Manitoba in the Methodist Church (actually a mission), daughter of James Robinson and Jeannie Mitchell. Marguerite was born May 1868 in Clarendon, Ontario, and died on September 28, 1908.
Marguerite and Sam lived at Napinka, Manitoba. Marguerite died from typhoid fever and was buried in the Napinka cemetery. Shortly after his wife's death, Samuel was reported to have gone to town and never returned for some reason. An Aunt heard that Sam had gone back to the U.S. to live with his first old sweetheart, she's not sure if they ever married but doesn't think so. It is assumed he went to live in Detroit Michigan. "Sam was described as a gentleman by occupation and traveled around selling. He was last heard from selling products in the United States, where he had been born. His business card states that he was selling aluminum products in the Michigan area (Detroit). He had one sister that the family knew of - Minnie, also from Detroit. People did hear from him time to time, his last correspondence home was in 1928 - a small Christmas card "From Dad With Best Wishes For The New Year".
Return Address written as
S.W. Kendall

On the envelope was Grand Emmons & Co. Newark, New York State - "High Grade Nursery Stock". Mailed with a 2 cent stamp.

Actually if you know they lived in Detroit and died IN Detroit then consult
the Detroit City death index which covers from 1920-1990's. It will give
you a date of death. Then you can look for newspaper info and perhaps obits
which might give further info. It would also enable you to order the death
certificates. If you don't live in Michigan, I would suggest that you
inquire at the Burton Website about a lookup on the death index. The web
site is:
http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/
Hope this helps.

I am in need of suggestions for where to go for info.
I'm looking for information on Anthony and Victoria MAGRETTA. I have no
idea when Anthony died (he was born around 1861), but I figure he died
before 1936-1938.
His wife, Victoria (NOGAS), committed suicide around 1936-1938 in
Michigan. My dates are ranges because of conflicting info on Ellis
Island manifests....the children who travelled with Victoria, whom I have
birthdates for, have the ages off by 2 years. Victoria immigrated in
1908 from Poland. She was born around 1869-1871 (if the Ellis Island
difference holds for her too, 1869 would be more likely).
What would [anyone] suggest to do to obtain more information on these
two? I know the death index starts in 1971, so that does not help here.
There is no one in the family who knows any more than I about these
two...in fact I know more facts. Also, they lived in Detroit.
Thanks for any help!

Hello Everyone:
I have recently added over 2,200 Ancestors to the 1600s Ancestor Data Base
with more to come.
The total is now over 24,500 and most all are proven Ancestors of
descendants living today.
I have also added several National Societies who have proven many
of these Ancestors. Also for the first time a few respected Reference
works that contain thousands of sources.
This should be a big help for those of you trying to prove your lines.
You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at our new location URL.
http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/
This is a free data base open to anyone who is interested in the 1600s
and the many ancestors who were here at that time.
While there be sure to read the INFORMATION & HELP page so
you understand the codes that I have used and how to best use them.
Happy hunting and most of all enjoy.

All our research materials will be available up until Saturday, December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready for research.
Why will we be closed?
Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the materials you are interested in will be available until we close on December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003.
Where will the interim location be?
The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity.
What will the interim location be like?
One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will not have to be paged; the shelves will be open.
How long will we be in the interim location?
The projected time frame is 2-3 years.
How can I find out more information?
Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us phoning the department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation information.
This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and in our newly renovated library.
For further contact, please phone the department or email Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at cwitcher(a)acpl.lib.in.us or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at skaufman(a)acpl.lib.in.us
Please publish and/or pass this information on to all others that might be interested. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department

I'd like to contact two cemeteries in Detroit. If it's not too much
trouble could someone give me the addresses for Mt.Olivet Cemetery
(Detroit) and Assumption Grotto Cemetery (Detroit).
Any suggestions on how to word me requests and what info I should expect
to obtain would be much appreciated. In Mt. Olivet I'm looking for one
name I know is there and hoping to find other relatives. Assumption
Grotto is only one name that I know is there. I'd like to get photos of
the stones, but I'm not expecting that from the cemeteries, but if I
could get locations I could see if someone else could go take pictures
for me.
Thanks in advance,
Elise
