Maria Lotter was born in 1821. In 1845 Maria and her husband Johann George List
journeyed to Frankenmuth, Michigan as part of a group of emigrants to perform
missionary work. This group came over with their paster Johann Konrad Wilhelm
Loehe and founded the town of Frankenmuth as well as St. Lorenz Lutheran
Church. George's older brother Johann Adam List and his wife Margaretha Mueller
arrived about a year later with a second group of about 90 emigrants. Maria
died in 1905 and was buried at St. Lorenz Lutheran church in Frankenmuth,
Michigan. The two brothers are buried at the location of the original church
while their wives are buried across the street next to the current church.
