MICHIGAN CENTRAL TRAIN HITS AUTO; 1 DEAD, 4 INJURED
Jackson - Miss Iva Baker of Jackson, was instantly killed. Mrs. Laura Blodgess,
also of Jackson, so badly injured that she may die and three other persons were
injured when an automobile driven by Mrs. Blodgett was struck by an eastbound
Michigan Central train on the Wildwood avenue crossing Thursday night.
The injured are John Jacobs, Saginaw, Eva Fifer, Battle Creek and Ernst Snyder,
Jackson. The train, a passenger, was running late and apparently the autoists
did not see its approach. They had been at Battle Creek and were returning home.
All the injured are in Jackson hospitals. Mrs. Blodgett is terribly injured,
one foot being severed and the other leg broken, besides internal injuries.

STANDISH MAN IS GROUND TO DEATH UNDER TRACTOR
Standish - Albert P. Hagley, aged 26, eldest son of Albert Hagley, a prominent
farmer, was almost instantly killed Thursday when a large tractor ran over him
while he was trying to stop it, having lost control of it. He was badly
crunched between the big machine and barn. He was soon to go as a select to
camp. Besides his parents, he leaves a widow, two brothers and a sister.

Harold (Bud)D. Bryarly age 58 died at his home in Mottville twp. at approx.
3:30 pm from the effects of cancer. He was surrounded my family and a friend,
Steve Stone. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana to Harold D. Bryarly Sr. and
Evelyn Drudge on September 22, 1938.
He married Nancy L. Green on April 18, 1959 in Niles, Michigan. She survives.
He moved to Mottville Twp. in White Pigeon in 1968. They cleared the land and
made a home. He work at varies job: Lee's Construction in Niles, Yellowstone
in Indiana. He held jobs as builder, truck drivers, cargo trailer maker.
He was invovled in The pre-1840 reenactments, being a member of the Pokagon
Long Rifles and Brothers of the Wind. He and Nancy owned and operated the
Mottville Black Powder Shop in Mottville, MI. He was president of the St.
Joseph Co., Conservation Club.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela S. Bigelow of White Pigeon, MI.,
Paula Wilson-Case of Scottville, MI.; and a son, Harold (Buddy) Bryarly III of
White Pigeon, MI. His mother, Evelyn Artley; four sisters, Mrs. (Sharon)J.
Neely, Ms. Janice Alwine, Mrs. (Mary)D. Dull, and Ms. Nancy Albaugh, all of
Elkhart, In. One brother, Richard C. Artley also of Elkhart. Five
grandchildren: Nicholas and Matthew Bigelow, Kelly and Zebulon Wilson, and
Joseph Case.
A service was held at The Mottville Bible Church. He will be interned in
Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, Michigan.

RECENT DEATH: Rose Gay Slater Sayer Hoffman Steward, 88, ex-wife of the late
Stanley Sayer and widow of Clinton Hoffman and Loyd Steward, mother of Naomi
Sayer Shelton, Virgil Hoffman and Genie Hisler, daughter of Ava (Gardner) and
Malcom G. Slater, son of Z. B. & Mrs. Slater, daughter of Ephraim Probasco, the
namesake "Uncle Eph" with whom Ephraim Shay enjoyed spending Sundays. Ephraim
Probasco lived on the northeast corner of Bippley Road and Petrie Road in
Sebewa Township, and Z. B. Slater and wife acquired the north 80 acres of that
160 and thus lived on Petrie Road. Rose was a founder and 10-year librarian of
Sunfield Library. She was very active in the Sunfield Historical Society.

RECENT DEATH: Albert Winston Ives, 91, widower of Mildred G. (Kenyon) Ives,
father of Denise Beechler and the late Patricia Girdwood, brother of the late
Stanley Ives, son of Aaron & Grace Ives. They lived on a portion of the Kenyon
farm on Petrie Road at York Road in Sebewa Township. Winston retired in 1977
from Elliot's IGA Store in Sunfield after 30 years as a meat cutter and had
been a television technician at Beebe's TV Shop in Ionia. Buried in East
Sebewa Cemetery.

self-employed computer software consultant, living in Vineland, NJ. Buried in
Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA.

& William H. Shipman, who settled on Sunfield Road in Sebewa Township before
1891. Eleanor was associated with her husband Del in several gas stations in
Lansing and Portland, and later worked in the J&J Variety Store in Portland.
