Hi,
I don't know if this information is in the directory. My question is-- I am trying to
find where my grandfather was in an orphanage in Baltimore, MD from middle 1880s to 1900.
His name is WALTER AVON WEST and he had a brother EDWARD WEST both living in the same
orphanage.

Subject: [MDGEN] Free Lookups in 1890 Baltimore City Directory
Hi Lists:
I am willing to do look-ups again for a limited time in the Baltimore
City 1890 Directory. I am having minor surgery Monday so it will give
me something to do while recovering. I think the Directory is online
somewhere but I have the CD with the Directory on it in Adobe Acrobat.
It is very easy to use. You need Adobe Acrobat to read the material
although if it is a short list I can type it into the message. Also I
can send complete pages of names to you particularly with common names
this can be helpful.
Good to go......

George,
There is a Walter A West, age 20, living as a boarder with Sarah West, at
1537 Retreat Street in Ward 16 in 1900. There were two white teenage Edward
West's in Ancestry's 1900 Index for Baltimore, and both were living with
their father.
The City Directories primarily listed working people and sometimes women
heads of household who did not work. I'm not sure if you will find lists of
orphanage residents anywhere (except sometimes in the census), but they will
not be listed in the City Directories.

John,
Thanks for your help. I had the information from the 1900 census and my Edward was living
in Talbot county in 1900. This Walter is my Grandfather. Walter got married in Baltimore
in 1900 but I can't find any record of the marriage either.
