Audrey,
As far as I know, the 1910 Census for Maryland has not been indexed, which
will make it difficult (not impossible) to find someone in it. The 1910
Pennsylvania Census was indexed. Have you looked there? Do you know when
he came to Baltimore? I noticed someone else found a Samuel H. Murphy in the
1890 City Directory (may or may not be the same one? Do you know if it
is?). Have you looked in the 1900 Maryland Census, which was indexed?
They also asked immigrants in 1900 when they came to this country. My 1900
index shows the Samuel Murphy's below in Baltimore and Western Pa. The
first 2 may be the most promising. Wilkensburg looks like it is about 30
miles from Connellsville. I may be able to look for him in the actual 1900
census in about 2 weeks. But I'd like to know the answers to the questions
above first. Also, names of wife and children? Have you looked for him in
any passenger indexes?

Subject: [MDGEN-L] 1910 Lookup
Is there anyone who would be willing and able to do a look-up for me?
My
grandfather, Samuel H. Murphy, b. May 15, 1855 inCountyDown, Ireland, came
to this country (supposedly alone) as a young child, sometime between 1864
and possibly 1870. I do not know the year or port of entry.
He reportedly went to work In the coal mines in Connellsville,
Pennsylvania and
LATER SETTLED IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, WHERE HE WORKED FOR
THE BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAILROAD AS AN ENGINEER, AND RAISED A LARGE FAMILY IN
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, living at 1833 S. Charles Street.. The Baltimore
Census of 1910 should show the year in which he entered the USA. Hopefully
someone who has this census will do a lookup for me.
Any help would be appreciated
