Have you tried to contact the Frederick or Carroll County Historical or
Genealogical Societies to see if someone there could help:?

If I'm not going about this right, please forgive me--and
straighten
me out. Thanks.
Henry Carter is (was) my g-g-g-grandfather. What I know for sure is
that in 1814, Henry bought a tavern from the widow of Richard Choate.
Said tavern was located at Carter's Crossroads, later known as
Porters, and was situated somewhere near the present town of
Eldersburg in Carroll County. In fact, Henry and his wife Mary are
buried at the little Wesley Chapel in Eldersburg. Henry, born c.1754,
died intestate in 1829 and his substantial estate was administered
(settled) thru five annual accounts by his widow Mary and his son
Henry. There was an associated Chancery Court case that went on until
1839. From the related documents I know a great deal about Henry's
heirs and their spouses. One other positive thing I know is that in
1803 Henry purchased from Benjamin Lawrence a tract of 500 acres in
Tyler county Virginia (now West Virginia). The deed for this
transaction refers to Henry Carter of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Henry's oldest son William eventually purchased this land from his
father. Henry paid taxes for one year(1804), but it appears that he
never lived there.
As noted above, Henry had a son Henry who is buried at Linganore
cemetery, Frederick County along with his wife Charity. Henry's
grandson and his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Nicodemus) are also buried
there,
A couple of weeks ago I posted the information about Henry's heirs,
their spouses and their wedding dates thinking some of you descended
from the spouse lines may have traced their way back to Henry and
beyond. But narry a single bite.
What I do not know and for over 25 years have not been able to learn
is what is the maiden name of Henry's wife, Mary. Where was Henry
born and who were his parents?
There are a couple of vague tantalizing clues which I will share with
anyone who thinks they might be able to help me out.
Thanks to all of you. Chuck Carter
