Hi, Don,
Just to follow up on my last message.
The parcel patented by Daniel Veirs, I , Rum Punch, is in what is now Montgomery
County, Md. Daniel added another parcel of land to it so had quite a lot of land
at his demise. I have been trying to locate it precisely, but the family
subdivided their holdings into smaller holdings for the next generation.
"Daniel's Inheritance" and "William and Mary" are two parcels
given to children
of Daniel I. Others are identified by patent name or by the occupants names at
the time.
The Montgomery County Historical Society is at 103 West Montgomery in Rockville.
They are open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 to 4. There is a separate library.
Weekdays are best becuase one of the two regular librarians (Jane or Pat) will be
there and they are familiar with the collections and resources. MCHS has
volunteers on the weekends and some are very well versed, and others are not as
well acquainted with all the local families and topics. They have a family file
on the Veirs, copies of the original patents, and also land records of Frederick
County before Montgomery Co. was separated from it. I have scanned the early
Daniel Veirs patents in and will send them to you under separate email. A
recent project has been to plat these old patents showing where they were
located. I didn't get a chance to researach "Rum Punch" the last time I
was
there but did get some tax information on it which I will send along as soon as I
get it scanned in. I think it is somewhat north and east of Rockville, MD as it
is described as being between the two forks of Rock Creek.
The Veirs that started Veirs Mill, etc. near Rockville is the son of Hezekiah
Veirs, another sibling of William and Daniel, the second generation. He went to
Baltimore and married into a merchant family and his son, Samuel Clarke Veirs,
came back to the Rockville area in 1838 and bought land. He was a builder and
merchant and became one of the prominent people in the community.
Samuel and his family are buried in the old Presbyterian Cemetery across the
street from MCHS. Others are in the Rockville Cemetery. MCHS has a cemetery
inventory for many County cemeteries that you can search.
Will send more when I have a chance to scan it in. What word processing programs
and version do you use. Maybe I can send an attached file.

In 2 weeks I will be in Montgomery and Frederick counties looking for
info on
my ancestors:
John Veirs b 10 Mar 1760 in Rock Creek 100 , Frederick Co. Went to Ky
abt late 1700's
He was son of Daniel Veirs Jr. or Sr.?
I believe that Rockville has a Veirs Mill Rd, Park and Village. Do any of
these have historical markers or where should I go to research for additional
info.
Regarding Rock Creek 100 , which I believe was in Frederick Co then; isn't
that now in Mntgmry Co. ? If so , what present day location would it be
near? Or should my research be concetrated in Frederick County? Anyone know
of cemeteries that have Veirs/Viers burials?
Any guidance, tips are appeciated!
Thanks
