The best places to do multiple county research are probably the State
Archives in Annapolis and the Md. Historical Society in Baltimore.
You can check out the State Archives to see what they have at:
http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/homepage/html/refserv.html
The Md. Hist. Soc is at
http://www.mdhs.org/explore/library.html
Also, Karen Zimmerman has a great web site called field trip to Baltimore
at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~zimzip/balto/balt.htm
She has a lot of information on how to prepare, where to go, etc.

Subject: [MDGEN] Maryland Research
Hi Folks,
I have three to four days next week to visit Maryland and do some
research.
I'd welcome any suggestions on where to go to best use my time.
My main interest is in the following tidbit that I received from another
researcher:
"The first record of our Nicholas in America had been near Little
Conogeguoge (Conacaheaque) Creek, Wilmington, Hardwich County, Delaware
(This would be located almost directly below New Castle, Delaware or
'Swanwick'.) about 1740. However, recently, information has been located
in the Land Office of Annapolis, Maryland. There is certificate # 78 for
100 acres of land to Nicholas VanEman patented on 9 October 1739. The
land,
known as VanEman's Struggle, is located in what was then Prince
George's
County and later was Frederick County, Maryland. Neighbors included:
Swearingen, Twigs, Cresaps, Williams, Stewarts, Howards, Millers, Butler,
Nelson, Davis, Snowdon, Graybill, Moore, Chew, Friends. (all surnames
also
turn up in Washington County, Pennsylvania.) Frederick County
Maryland
Land
Record Abstracts: Liber B, pages 19-21."
Is there a library that would have microfilms of original records from
Frederic County and from Prince George?
Another family line is the Sprigg/Nuthall/Pratts of early Maryland-
Calvert
County, St. Marys, and Prince George.
I don't want to waste time traveling from county to county if the records
are easily available in one place.
Thanks for any tips on research in these areas.
Donna
