GLOSSOP / GLOSSUP / GLOSUP/ GLASEP / GLASSUP
Has anyone seen any of these variations while doing your own research in
Maryland? GLOSUP is not a common surname; there aren't too many of them in the
US.
The original Jonathan GLOSSOP / GLASSUP came to Maryland in 1724 as an
indentured servant. He was to serve John Dykes in "His Majesties plantations in
Maryland" for a period of eight years. He's vanished into thin air! What
happened to him? Where did he go when his contract was over? He should have
been given 50 acres at the end of his contract. Has anyone seen any record of
this?
His son John Glossup was in Henry County, Virginia by 1786, later migrating
to Grainger County, Tennessee.
Can anyone help find a Glosup (or any variation) anywhere in Maryland in the
1700s? And remember, back then a double "s" would have looked more like the
letters "fs".
THANKS!!
