Edward Philpott was born abt 1597 and married very late in life--around
1660. (I find this very hard to believe, but he made a couple of depostions
declaring his age.) No record has been found that shows when he came to
America, but it seems to be around 1636-40. He was an indentured servant to
Thomas Mitchell, de la Brooke, Buskin/Burkin,Thomas Gerrard. His services
were sold by one to the other. He evidently prospered. He probably married
Bridget/Bridgett/Briget/Brigit ?
around 1659, as son Edward was born in 1660. A son Charles was born 1667,
but died young and there was perhaps a daughter, Mary. Son Edward married
Susannah Posey. Their son Charles Philpott married Elizabeth Barton Smoote
and one of their sons was Warren. Charles' son John named a daughter Sarah
Warren Philpott, b. 1756. Another son of Charles, Barton, named a daughter
Sarah Warren Philpott, b 1780. I assume Bridget was born around 1640. It
seems odd that none of Edward's children or grandchildren were named
Bridget.
Also, could Bridget have been a Walker? Edw. Philpott's first land was
purchased from James Walker.
