I'm sorry. I must have missed something. I am from Davenport and am
wondering what the conversation was about. Researching at the Davenport
Court House is a three-fold experience. having researched there for over
30 years, I can tell you they're very cooperative. Just open the gate
and let you behind the counter and "go for it!" However, I can tell you
their probates are incomplete (so check the newspapers) and the divorce
records are very useful. However, the naturalization records are in the
basement (in boxes!) and unless you ask for them, you'll never find the
delayed births. :-)
The Scott County Genealogical Society has a huge collection (including
east coast records) in the bottom floor of the Davenport Public Library
on Main Street. The newspapers include so much more than you'll find in
the courthouse.
That, and the BlackHawk County Genealogical Society across the river in
Rock Island has another huge collection of East Coast records in the
Rock Island Public Library. The society has indexed a great deal of them.
