Dear Donna,
I don't know if this is him, but I have a Proverb BURRISS/BURROWS, who was
born 14 Sep 1825, Prince Georges Parish, Montgomery County, MD. I think this
Proverb was the brother of my ggg-grandmother, Cassandra BURRISS TRUNDLE (b.
ca. 1823, MD., d. after 1870 Washington, DC.)
The 1850 DC Census shows Isaiah TRUNNEL (Trundle), age 25, with wife
Cassandra, age 27, born in MD. Living with them were Mary P. BARROW, age 49,
born MD., and Proverbs Barrow, age 25, born in MD.
The 1860 DC Census shows Isiah TRUNDLE, age 35, with wife Cresanda and
children. Also living with them was Mary BURROWS, age 50 (60?), born in MD.
LDS IGI records state that Proverb BURRISS, born 14 Sep 1825, was the son of
Tyson BURRISS and Mrs. Mary BURRISS. LDS records also show that Tyson
BURRISS was born ca. 1897, Prince George, Montgomery, MD., wife named Mary.
According to records in the BURRIS/BURRESS/BURRUS/BURROWS Family File at the
Montgomery County, MD. Historical Society Library, there was a Proverb
BURRISS born 14 Sept 1815, son of Tyson and Mary. This same paper says that
Tyson BURROWS married Mary BURROWS on 18 DEC 1819, so your guess is as good
as mine.
The same information from the Montgomery County Historical Society file shows
that a Mary Prather BURRESS was born 02 Jan 1800, daughter of Zadok and Ruth.
Note that the 1850 DC Census gives Mary's middle initial as "P". I have
not
been able to determine if the maiden name of Mary BURRISS/BURROWS, mother of
Proverb, was also BURRISS. It appears so. Perhaps she and Tyson were
distant cousins.
The DC Censuses do show Mary and Proverb as white. I am not aware of any
African or Native American connection with the above family.
The maiden name of Ruth, above, wife of Zadok, was, I believe, BUTT. I have
found the name "Proverb" in the BUTT family, also.
In my notes I also show that Mary BURRESS/BURROWS, mother of Proverb, also
had a brother named Proverb, but I cannot find anything to substantiate that
at the moment.
What is your connection to Proverb, if you don't mind my asking?
Carolyn
