I found an obituary in a Baltimore newspaper [name of paper was not
included]
as follows:
"Ijams 04 July 1878, The body of Hiram Ijams was found in the Potomac
River near the B&O water station #12. He lived about 2 miles above the
Paw Paw
tunnel and is supposed that he left home to ford the river and missed the low
place plunging into the deep water and drowned. He leaves a wife and 2
children." I have no idea as to his parents and really need some help in
identifying
both Hiram and his family.
Questions: How could I obtain a copy of his death certificate?
Roberta Iiames
Roberta since he died in western MD or WVA (Paw Paw is in WVA) if there was
a death cert it would have been filed in the place where he died.
I know there are no death certificates for MD counties in 1878. I do not
know about WVA though.
I have two possiblities for you in the 1860 MD census there is
Richard Ijams in Allegeny Co MD dist 7 page 272 of census or
Lewis Ijams in Washington Co., MD Hancock Dist. page 1088.
Since Paw Paw is across the river from Allegeny Co., I would suggest
Richard might be the father..
