You bet! That and the fact that grandparents raised their son's
children. North Carolina had "Basterdy Bonds" where the mother had to
tell the name of the father or pay $200.00 at the time of the birth.
The father had to pay that or agree to support the child so that the
child wouldn't become a dependent of the state.
In the 1800s my gg grandfather has several children 4-5 months apart in
the census. ?? It has been driving me up a wall.
