Was it normal to send Vets from Maryland to a Tennessee
facility?
A vet could be sent to any of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Usually
they were sent where there was space and sometimes residents even asked to be transferred
from one home to another. The records for the branch in Tennessee are held by the NARA
Southeast region (
http://www.archives.gov/southeast/public/). Unfortunately only a
sampling of the case files still exist. There are microfilmed registers of residents and
the film is at most of the NARA regions and its DC location. The registers usually
contain some personal information and if the vet died in the home or was discharged that
would be noted. Residents of the homes would appear on the Tennessee census so you might
want to check that as well if the vet lived there during a census year.
