Elizabeth,
You can do some work before you go to the archives. You will need to this in
order to find your certificate number and get a copy. You will need to know
where (counties or Baltimore City) and when the person died. Check out there
website for times and directions.
The example is for Baltimore City. But Counties are listed separately. You
will have to get the same info for them. This is the procedure for someone who
died in June of 1878.
-Go to their website <A

-Click on Vital Records. (Under Hot Topics)
-Click on Death Records
-Click on Baltimore City
-Go down to (Death Record, Index) 1875-1972
-Click on microfilm
( MSA CM1133 ) Lookup date of death and first letter of last name. This will
give the microfilm (Accession No CR xxxxx) you need to pull to find the name
and get the certificate number. There are some indexes on line MARYLAND INDEXES

- Click on microfilm
(Death Record CM 1132) is to determine what what microfilm you will need to
pull to look at the certificates and make a copy. Find death date range and
write microfilm (accession) numbers down.
Confused yet? When you get to the archives it may start to make sense. You
will be okay. There are people there to help. Show them what you have looked
up and they will point you in the right direction.
Email me if I can help with the confusion before you go. Good luck.
