I believe, Kevin, that I shall take advantage of your kind, generous offer
and ask you if you have records on any of the following three men, two of
whom are brothers. One disappeared (believed to have been an agent the
Federal Government working both sides) and two others returned to their home
- one to die from his injuries, the other to go on and live to a ripe old
age. Their surname is RIGNEY, but I have seen this spelled many different
ways -i.e., Regney, Rigni, Rigny, Regny, and so on. These men are:
Jehu Hank Rigney, aka Hank Rigney - often recorded in records mistakenly as
John or Jahue Hank Rigney (my 4th ggrandfather). Jehu enlisted 5/24/61 at
Lynchburg, & found listed in the roster of the Confederate 24th Va Rgt.
Reisdent of Carroll County, Va.
Leander Rigney -(elder brother of Jehu Hank) Enl. Co. C, 6/10/61 at Camp
Pryor. Absent sick summer 1861. Adm. Chimbarazo 5/21/62 with fever. Des.
6/28/63.Released from federal custody 1/17/64 to work with U. S. gov't. 6
feet, fair comp., auburn hair, blue eyes. Resident of Carrol Co. Va. -
Virtually nothing is known about this man, other than info shown here.
Hopefully, your records have something.
Henley C. Rigney, (uncle of Lee and Hank above) Henley C. Rigney enlisted
in Company G, 45th Va. Regiment of Virginia (Regiment)on in September
1863.. He was AWOL on final roll. He was captured at Winchester on
9.19.1864 and was a POW at Point Lookout. Exch. (He was exchanged for a
Union soldier) 1.17.1865 . He was in Richmond Hospital and died in Carroll
County on Feb. 7, 1865 from his war wounds In another section of internet,
this is recorded as Co "I" (eye) 45th Va. Infantry - named Reed Island
Rifles.
If you have any further info, I'd love to have it. espcially any vital
statistics.
Many thanks in advance,
Regards
Dusty Smith

Hi Gang,
Its been a long time since I have posted here but wanted to remind those
oldies and newbies that I still do FREE research here at Andersonville for
the asking. I'm a part time historian and Volunteer at Andersonville and I
have the newest revision of the historic site database here at my home and
at my fingertips. If anyone needs any lookups, please just drop me an
email.
