Any antivirus program needs to be updated AT LEAST once a week so it has
information on the latest viruses and worms. Then, if you suspect a
problem, use your antivirus software to scan your entire computer. That
should tell you if you have a known virus. Sometimes, however, if programs
don't work right, all you have to do is reboot your computer. Leave it off
for 30 seconds before turning it back on. HOWEVER, if you suspect you may
have a virus, do an online update and then a scan FIRST. Some viruses
actually wait until you reboot to do their nasty business. then send out
hundreds of messages before you know what's happening.
