Viruses cannot get through Rootsweb. The way they are spread is usually
through the address book and inbox of those who subscribe to the List. For
example, if my computer was infected with this virus, and I had an unread
message in my inbox that you had posted to any List, then the virus in my
computer could send itself to you. The best protection against viruses is
to NEVER open an attachment unless you are certain what it is - no matter
who it comes from. If you aren't sure, it only takes a minute to drop the
sender a note and ask if they sent you a message entitled "xxxx" with an
attachment entitled "XXXXXX".

Joan,
Thank you for notifying us. Please let us know the following so we can
weed out
your submissions, if any got through the rootsweb virus screening.
1. The dates that you made submissions when your might have been
infected, and
2. The subject of those postings.
In the "old days" we used to hear what was happening at rootweb regarding
equipment (firewalls, etc.), virus blocking, spam filters, etc. Since
Ancestry.com took it over there has been virtually no communications other
than selling their products. I have no idea how vigilant they are and the
silence doesn't foster much confidence. In lieu of direct correspondence,
could we ask the List Owner keep us informed? Thanks.
Hugh
