Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

In the future I will try to do better. I guess I still need to learn to keep quiet when messages are not originally meant for me. I'm sorry.

My gggrandfather Balthasar or Baltzer Schneider lived in old monacacy,Frederick,Md.He had several children, among them Frederick,John,Hannah and Samuel.I have reason to believe Samuel was my ggrandfather.I have never been able to find any information about his wife, her name was Catherine. They migrated to Ohio, probably after they were married, around 1830.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's because since the nature of the list is to always attract new people you never kow when a new person may be tracing the same family you are. How would you know if people didn't put all the names on their posting? I think it's rather nice, and have written to people when I've seen a name that s also in my fammily.

Good hunting, Monroe Johnson
Researching surname PROUT as it relates to the Maryland families - separate
from the New England Prouts. My stone wall is Richard Gibson Prout of Calvert
County, father of William T. Prout (1813-1891) of Ann Arundel County. Have
bits and pieces of Maryland Prouts (anything ever printed, as far as I can tell)
back to original colonist John Prout (d. 1699 Dorchester County), whose wife
was tried and acquitted for witchcraft in Annapolis. No steady line from him
up to my line of Prouts. Most of the family seemed to go back and forth
between Calvert and Ann Arundel - but all Calvert records lost in fire.
Also have smattering of possibly related Prouts in Caribbean.
Also have some African-American Prouts who emigrated to help establish the
Maryland colony in Liberia (including first governor of colony).
Still seeking any Maryland relationship to English immigrant William Prout of
Washington, DC (1753-1823).
Still seeking any Maryland relationship to Captain Timothy Prout, father of
the Prout families of Massachusetts and New England.
Happy to share, looking for more information if you've got it - even modern
family groups!
Thanks,
Mollie Merrick King
I don't think you understand what Dan was asking. Posting your names is
what we should do, however they should be in the subject line and the
body of the message, NOT the words "Roll Call". Many people, Dan and
myself for instance, are on many lists (I'm on 124 on Rootsweb alone)
and get several hundred emails per day. We have no time to open and
read every single message to see if there is a related name in it when
that should be in the subject line. We look for messages which have
subject lines that interest us. Example: KEMP, Talbot Co. If there is
nothing in the subject line that interests, such as those simply saying
"Roll Call" we click delete without reading.
Unfortunately for the people looking for help, using the words "Roll
Call" is keeping many of the most active listers from ever seeing their
message. You are losing a lot of contacts simply putting "roll call" in
your subject line. Then your "Goose" could be up the "Creek" without a
paddle :-) The only reason I saw this one is I saw Dan's email address
on the other and read it to see what he was saying on the subject as Dan
is one of the better list owners around. When I saw your message below I
looked to see if it was a reply to Dan's.

There was a streetcar that went from Baltimore to Ellicott City. I have
heard that ministers would wait outside the courthouse for couples who
had obtained marriage licenses.
