Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Yes, I checked that out, too. I asked if I could pay and join as an
out-or-towner and they said yes, but I would have to come in person. Since I live in
Atlanta, GA, I don't consider that an option.
Hi Debbie:
I've been checking with Baltimore County and they say yes, you can get a
library card, with no charge, as long as you have a valid driver's license, The
only catch is that you have to sign the application in person at one of the
libraries.
Check out these web sites and you can contact the other counties and
Baltimore City to see if you have to appear in person:
www.sailor.lib.md.us - this is the MD State Library Web Page
www.askusnow.info - this one gives you a live person to ask and is available
in other states, too.
www.bcpl.info - Baltimore County Web Site
Start with sailor and you can go to the others from there.
Hope this helps,
Mary Jean
I belong to the Midwest Gen and Hist Soc in Wichita KS. I have belonged
there for several years. Imagine my delight to find out that they offer
Heritage Quest access as a perk. No extra charge, of course. You could join
it, or other societies that offer access and never have to show up in
person.

Mary Jean,
Do you know if someone from out of state can get a card to access this
site? Until my generation, all of my relatives resided in Maryland. I
thank you for your time and your kindness.

I'm able to access the site through my library here in Rochester, NY. I
believe many libraries offer this service. I don't know where you live but
check with your local library. I called mine and they explained over the
phone exactly how to access it.......I may have missed some of this
conversation and apologize for this reply if redundant.

I recently purchased a book titled "Princes of Ireland, Planters of Maryland,
A Carroll Saga, 1500 - 1782.
It is a historical and Genealogical account of the Charles Carroll line.
I thought it would be of some help in my Genealogy but was wrong, I would
like to pass it along to someone who may be interested in it.
Please contact me privately, off list, okieagee(a)aol.com
Researching my Coomes family I found in the 1860 Maryland Census a
George Coomes, Charles Co., Md. Coomes Dist.
Does anyone know anything about the "Coomes Dist", why it is called that
and when?
I am looking for a connection to my ggrandfather, James T. (Tucker)
Coomes who was born 1817, Maryland (Baltimore).
I would like to find his birth record and his parents names. He
possibly went to sea for a period of time before 1843. I don'e know how
to trace that information either. - family legend. He was married in
1843, Grayson Co., Va. to Elizabeth Dunford of Carroll Co., Va.

I am looking for my mother's brother Irwin Williams who lived in Hava Der
Grass. MD with his wife Madeline. They were an African-Amercan couple. He was
about 5-10 yrs older than Mom. My mother, Sarah Wamsley-Moody took me and my
brother to visit them sometime in the 1940's. These relatives have been deceased
since the 1950's. my uncle Irwin & wife had no children. Mom died in 1964. she
was born in 1894.
I believe my aunt and uncle are both buried in a graveyard in or near Hava De
Grass very likely connected to an AME Methodist Church
I am requesting any help you may give me on locating my aunt and uncle's
graves location.
Thanks

Robert KIRKLAND was born in 1706 in Elk Ridge Maryland. His son was Richard
Snowden KIRKLAND born in 1728. Now Richard KIRKLAND Robert's father was said

There is no marriage for Thomas Fowler to Mary Louise Venturi. They may
have been married by posting banns in church, as you didn't require a
license at that time. If you know what church they attended, you should
check there.

Jean,
Do you by any chance have info on a MD (OR DC?) marriage between Thomas B?S?
Fowler and Mary Louise Venturi. I do not know the date, but their first
child was born in 1903. I think they lived in Baltimore MD, but the groom
was born in DC and the bride in MD. We have been unable to find them in MD
marriages to 1899 so I suspect the marriage occurred between 1900 and 1903.
Thank you for ANY help you can give me!
Mary

Just a thought,
Catholic parish records are kept in the parish. If a parish is disbanded they are transferred to another active parish. Since orphanages are no longer in existence the archives may have the records. I suggest you try getting in touch with the archivist for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
