Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Any idea where he was lost at sea? That would be a good beginning point.
Then you could type in that area on www.google.com and see what kind of
resources there are for records, including the rootsweb lists.
According to oral history a friend's grandfather died at sea. She finally
unearthed his death certificate and some other records from the tiny island
of Saba in the Carribean, where he'd originally been from, and it seems he
died during the 1917/18 flu epidemic and is actually buried in Cuba. There
was more detail in the paperwork, but that's the nutshell version.
Good luck!

Just wondering how others have dealt with this problem...
When confronted with relatives who are convinced that they 'know' a
fact when they are basing a story on legend, and argues against your
documentation that proves otherwise, how do you convince them that the
legend that they have been taught from childhood, is wrong?
Or do you try? AND....When do you say 'ENOUGH"!! when their minds won't
be changed?

I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNE flower.
Passport records prior to 1926 are kept by the National Archives in
Washington, DC. Later records are held by the Department of State. The NARA
holdings have been microiflmed so you may be able to view them at a Fmaily
History Center. Also don't overlook NARA's diplomatic records. I had an
ancestor who died abroad and the US Consul in England sent a letter to the
family. These records also filmed Here is NARA's site to check for more

My g-grandfather left Baltimore or Baltimore County to settle some family
matter somewhere in Scotland about 1885 and family history says he died
there. If I could find his passport record, it could be most helpful.
Anyone know how I can do that? Thanks.

Hi everyone,
This week I've added 9 new databases to my site, Awesome Genealogy.
I've also made some major updates to my State of Delaware section which can be found here:
http://www.awesomegenealogy.com/state_delaware.shtml
My newest databases can be found here:
http://www.awesomegenealogy.com/newstuff.shtml
They include:
Accessions to the Presbytery of Lewes, Delaware from 1760 - 1788
Accessions to the Presbytery of New Castle, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland from 1760 - 1788
Marriages of the Holy Trinity Church, Delaware, 1752
Naturalization of Germans in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania 1815-1830
--If you find an ancestor listed here, email me, as I have more information on each of these men
Boston Port Arrivals of Irish Immigrants in 1762
--This is the beginning of a series of Irish immigrants who arrived in Boston from 1762-1769. For the most part the ships they came in on are not listed, however the names of the arrivals will be listed year by year, hopefully allowing for easier searches for their actual ships on other sites.
The Dead and Wounded from Benedict Arnold's Expeditionary Force in 1775
--Listing those men from Cambridge, Massachusetts
Translations from German to English of Genealogy and Relationship Terms
Translations from German to English of each Month of the Year
--In response to a growing amount of queries and questions regarding German translations, I've added these two new databases in the hopes of helping people out who are having trouble with the German terms.
Old Newspaper Records from the Germantown, Pennsylvania Area in 1753
--These continuing series of extracts from various Newspapers now cover from 1747-1753, 1756-1757, 1767-1770 and from 1781-1783. Details in these vary, with one-line descriptions of possible ancestors to entire paragraphs detailing family lines and when they immigrated to the United States, most often from Germany.
Over the last two weeks I have also made additions to the following sections:

Thank you for all the wonderful emails from my earlier email. I did forget
to tell you where the archives is located.
2200 St. Paul Street
Baltimore, MD 21218
This is at the corner of 22nd and St. Paul. St Paul is one block east of
Charles Street. St Paul runs one-way south and Charles is one-way north.
22nd is one-way west and 23rd one-way east. Therefore from St Paul it is a
right onto 22nd street. The lovely Lane Church is on the corner. The
archive is in the basement and entered from the back. There is an alley. I
forget the name that runs between 22 and 23rd. Parking is beside the church
on 22nd or in alley right along side the church back.

other archives are in the area.
They also have a very comprehensive Minister records card file that Rev. Ed
Schell is still maintaining. He still comes in about 2 days a weeks and his
head is a wealth of information that amazes me.

The United Methodist Historical Society located at Lovely Lane Methodist
Museum and Archives:
Just though I would share this with you.
Each time I go to the archives, I am amazed at what I find. While I realize
now from my research that most of my relatives were Methodist in Baltimore,
I never realized all the information that I would find at the archives.
I have found baptismal records with parent’s names and birth date. I have
found marriages far easier than at the MSA. I have found address changes
and church changes when they moved to a new area of town. I have found
death notices and I have also found cemetery information. All of these for
19th century, pre-vital governmental record keeping days.
But beside the vital data information, I have also found why couples came to
marry. (they were members of the same church as children) but also where and
what type wedding they had. (Parsonage, church, home—and what home).
Instead of searching through poorly photographed microfilm, I get to touch
and use the original records.
I even found notes that my grandmother placed on little pieces of paper in
one church’s old books 50 years ago. The notes told me where to find the
information that had been eluding me for the last 5 years. I recognized her
handwriting immediately and the notes simply said “page xx, line xx”. I
looked there and low and behold, there it was. I was only the next person
to have touched the books—50 years later!
Which brings me to another point—very few people visit or use the records
they keep there. Also while they are doing a great job now, they still need
more money to preserve the records for future generations. And do they have
records…many more that I can touch on here.
Membership is only $10.00 yearly for an associate membership. Other
Membership categories are available. I am considering a lifetime
membership, which is a bargain at $200.00. But if not a member, a visit is
only $2.00. I found it much less expensive to join because I now go fairly
often. Also there are other benefits if you cannot visit. The staff will
do research for $15.00 per hour if not a member and $10.00 per hour if a
member if you are not in the area. Lovely Lane is the mother church of
Methodism in the United States. The records include the Baltimore,
Washington, DC and western Maryland conferences. The Baltimore fire of 1904
did affect their records but they still have records back to the early 1800’
s.
Their telephone number is 410—889-4458. Their email is lovlnmus(a)bcpl.net

For anyone who is interested, I learned something about Holy Redeemer Cemetery this weekend. I had a family member pass away and she was buried in this cemetery. There was a note on the door of the office stating it was permanently closed. The office was moved to Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, 7401 German Hill Road. Phone number 410-284-0648. Hope this is helpful to someone.
