Hello Everyone,
I would like to welcome all the new members to the MDGEN List.
I wanted to take the time and introduce myself to all the new members of the
list and to the old members.
My name is Jan Carter If you have any suggestions or problems please address
them to me at jcart54(a)aol.com . Not on the list. Please do me a favor when
you email me put some where in your email MDGEN, so I will know what list you
are referring to.
A few general rules: To unsubscribe to the list, send an email to
MDGEN-L-request(a)rootsweb.com . And in the subject line put unsubscribe.
Use plain text and turn off the signature file.
I know many of you are having trouble unsubscribing to the list. I am working
on this problem with Rootsweb.
If any of you need any help about Montgomery County MD I know a lot about it
and I can help you. In addition I know where some of the Cemeteries are
located also, I can help you there also.
I am in the middle of changing the Rules to the list. Specially the one about
the Roll Call every month. I believe it is more effective if we have one
every 3 months instead.
Unless everyone wants to have one each month. I would like to know your
opinion on this and you can post your opinions to the list or directly to me.
But I figure it will be more effective if the list sees everyone's opinion.
About the Roll Call.
And they can respond.
Also one last note when making query's please try to put in the subject line
what County you are asking about or a date that makes it easier for everyone.
Thank you
Jan Carter List Admin For the MDGEN List.
I noticed someone is researching the Greer family. Do you by any chance
have any info on the Greer who married Thomas Lambdin in Baltimore? We have
the marriage but don't know which Thomas she mar. or when she died? There
is a book on the Greer family at the Maryland Historical Society but it
didn't give us the info we need. Would appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks in advance.

Hello resesearchers,
Although the surname SHERWOOD has not been my main interest, I have found
the name linked to several times to the name I am researching...DAFFIN. In
my research, I have found three separate DAFFIN lines that I can not conect
together, but the name SHERWOOD is found in each and I hope to find some more
clues if possible.
1- FRANCIS DAWES DAFFIN - He died about 1870 or maybe later (sorry, I'm on
the road and can't access the exact date). In his obituary, it is stated that
he began his career with the SHERWOOD BROS. of Baltimore. He was born in
Baltimore also.
2- SARAH DAFFIN; Widow of BENJAMIN DAFFIN - In her Baltimore obituary of
about 1890s, it states she was the daughter of the "HON. HUGH SHERWOOD"
3- CHARLES DAFFIN - About 1775 he married MABEL BOZEMAN a widow, whose maiden
name was SHERWOOD. (They married in Caroline County)
I know it can be just coincedental, but I'm turning over any stones to
find a connection between these DAFFINS and would like help in finding any c
onnection between these SHERWOODS also.
FRANCIS DAFFIN was born 1840, the son of CHARLES C.D. DAFFIN and was in the
Zarvona Zouaves and Confederate Army during the entire Civil War. He was a
printer by trade and died in Brooklyn, N.Y. His father Charles is the brick
wall to this family line, possibly born 1814 in Virginia. He was a railroad
engineer in Baltimore and died there.
It is not known for sure who BENJAMIN DAFFIN is. He too is shown enlisting in
the Zouaves and Confederate Army in Baltimore. There was a BENJAMIN DAFFIN
in Baltimore at that time who was a cutler by trade and had come from England
about 1813. I think he had a son Benjamin, but we don't show a wife by the
name of SARAH.
CHARLES DAFFIN came to the Eastern Shore from St. Mary's Co. He bought and
built onto a huge plantation called the DAFFIN FARM and DAFFIN HOUSE at
Tuckahoe Neck, near Hillsboro, Caroline Co., Md. He was prominent and did
have connections to Baltimore as he and his brother JOSEPH DAFFIN were
merchants as well as planters.
Any info on these names is greatly appreciated. I am wondering if these
SHERWOODS are from the same family or not and would like to know more of that
name.

Hi and thanks, if I have seen Peden's book it was years ago and
didn't record my reference. I have not seen the birth of Mary Bayley
and believe maybe the one you found could be the one. She would have
been 16 or 17 which was not unusual for marriage at that period
Thank you very much for sending the material. I hope to go to
Annapolis this summer so will look for John Bailey/Bayley to see what
I can find. It's people like you who make the genealogy fun. Billie

My great grandfather, Hopper Emory Nicholson, married Sarah L. Emory on 30
Sep 1875. He was born and raised in Queen Anne's County but moved to
Baltimore at some point. I am trying to determine if he was living in
Baltimore at the time of his marriage. His wedding announcement was
published in the Baltimore Sun. However, that fact does not necessarily
mean that he was living in Baltimore at the time since he (and his bride)
had family there. However, if he actually was married in Baltimore, that
might be a different story.
The minister who performed the ceremony was named Rev. F Swentzel and I
have good reason to believe that he was a Methodist minister.
Does any one have any books or other sources which list clerics and their
churches in 1875 in Maryalnd? If so, could you please look up Rev.
Swentzel and tell me the location of his church.
Thank you,

Could someone send me a copy of the will of Wendel Hesson (son of Balthasar

I'm not asking someone to go get a copy. But some researcher might have a
