Hello Md. researchers
I will need to sign off from the list next month so I'll post my search
again before signing off. I'm still trying to locate the parents &
siblings for my 3'rd gr grandparents. They were, Thomas ADAMS &
Catherine/Katherine WATSON. Some researchers are quite sure Catherine's
mother was Hester ( ? ) WATSON. Catherine was born about 1773 maybe in
Caroline County, Md. Thomas may have also been born in Caroline County
abt. 1777. From data I have collected during the past 16 years it would
seem some family members may have died during the 1770/1790 period
probably in the Revolution or perhaps from an epidemic. I have the marr.
bond for Thomas ADAMS & Catherine WATSON dated 12/16/1794 where they
were marr. in Bourbon County, Ky. The bond is signed by a Ralph ADAMS as
being the guardian for Thomas. Some old documents belonging to other
members of this ADAMS line state they had lived in "Tuckahoe, Md." On
the 1778 Md. census records there is a Ralph ADAMS listed with the group
of people in the Tuckahoe area. He is the only ADAMS listed. There is
one WATSON on the list being Benoni WATSON. On the 1800 Nicholas County,
Ky. census there is a Ralph ADAMS listed. By 1810 Thomas ADAMS is on the
Nicholas County, Ky. census but no Ralph. I haven't been able to find
any family data for Ralph such as a will but I suspect he may have been
a relative to Thomas & might also suspect something happened to the
parents of Thomas ADAMS & Catherine WATSON & Ralph left Md. & took them
to Ky. during the 1790's. Does anyone on the list have info regarding
any epidemics or events that claimed lives in Caroline County, Md.
1770/1790 ? I would also be interested in any data regarding the
migration of people from Md. to Ky.
Thanks in advance for your help in my search.

Loan: If were you I would visit a Library that has the IGI. A number of
Libraries have them nand of course The Family Center in UTAH have many many
records. When I first started was before Computer's were around. The one in
Tucson, Az had all of their records on Micrafish and I made copies of all the
states that had Rutledge names in them.
So now I have my own files that I can use whenever I need them.
There is another set of records but I can't remember the name, but is the
one where anyone wants to submit records they also have them on "fish". The
only trouble I find in that file is people like me finds new names and yet my
old file is there too.
I have spent many hours researching and sometimes I wonder what my family
will do with it.
Probably pitch it if I don't decide who would really want it.

In your search I suggest you go to an index, then to the 1800 Maryland census
and find which Penn families had a boy under 10; then go to the 1810 census
and see which families had a boy 10-16. That should narrow down your hunt.
Then, you can seek wills and administrations, etc., for those families. I
would also check Ohio because the whole family could have moved when James
was a baby.
In the 1830 Ohio census you should be able to get confirmation of his age. If
he lived that long, the 1870 census has a space for foreign birth of parents
and 1880, 1900 and 1910 have spaces for place of parents' birth.
Would anyone have from familytreemaker cd 323 need a lookup on Alexander
Ellsworth Goroum .
thank you

Lonna,
Penns owned property in Maryland in Anne Arundel, Charles, and Montgomery
counties according to the Tax Assessment of 1783 at this Maryland State
Archives site:
http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/stagser/s1400/s1437/html/ssi1437e.html
Click on the county, then scroll down through the several alphabetical lists
on each page to find the Penns and the tracts of land on which they were
assessed taxes. Of course this does not prove that these individuals *lived*
on the properties they owned in these counties, but at least it may give you
a clue. And the timeframe is right for a potential father to your James Penn.
Here is the address for the Reference and Research site of the Archives.
There you will find information about access to the records:

Hello,
I'm new to this list and I need advice on how to find an ancestor born in
MD. I have no idea what county, so I need advice to narrow down the area.
My gr gr gr grandfather James PENN was listed in an Ohio census as being
born in MD Abt. 1799. That is all I have so I don't know how to procede.
He married Margaret HIGGS in Licking Co. OH in 1826 and they raised their
family there.
Does anyone have any advice or know of other PENNs in MD where I might find
some clues?
Thank you,
Lonna in Texas
I am looking for information on William Lovelace and Margaret Beall's daughter, Margaret Lovelace, born abt 1774 in Prince Georges, Maryland. Margaret married Zachariah Gaitherin 1806, had 1 child that I know of Isam/Isham Gaither in 1809. Margaret died in 1811 in NC.
Thank you
