Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Back in early September I contacted this list with a problem that I was
having connecting to the AirPort Base Station, both wirelessly with an
AirPort equipped computer and via Ethernet with a non-AirPort Computer. I
solved the problem connecting wirelessly, but continued to have a problem
connecting with my desktop (the non-AirPort computer). This problem was
solved when a search of the Internet turned up the following URL:
On this site is a little program (about 250K) called Airport Modem
Utility (the latest version is 1.1). This program is just two weeks old
and already some 6000 plus people have downloaded it. I had a little
problem getting it set up, but the developer, Larry Rosenstein
<lrosenstein(a)mac.com>, was very patient while helping me get it set up.
Actually, the set-up is simplicity itself (I'm just not too smart). If
anyone wants to try this program and is having any problems, I'll be glad
to offer my suggestions in order to take some of the load off Larry. If I
can't come up with the answer, there's always Larry.
People, I can tell you that the program works beautifully - and you
cannot connect via Ethernet without it. At the moment my wife, with her
iBook, and me with my desktop are both surfing the Internet
simultaneously using just one phone line to connect to our ISP through
the AirPort Base Station. So, if you have a need to connect a non-AirPort
computer to the Base Station, this is the program for you. Believe it or
not, this is a free program.
