Harmon Jones was the son of Harmon DeGraff Jones and Marion Bradfort Pierce. The mother
lived with the family in the 1900 census. His mother's family tree can be found in
"Pierce genealogy, being the record of the posterity of John Pers, an early
inhabitant of Watertown, in New England"
Harmon's parents lived in New Orleans in 1849 where his father bought a schooner
named the Florinda, and left the port of New Orleans for the gold rush of San Francisco.
He was never heard from again. In 1875 a British vessel got off course in the South
Pacific and found the survivors of the Florinda on a small island, or so the story goes.

His mother had a sister named Cornelia Pierce who was the wife of John Hoey also in New
