Can anyone tell me where the "Mississippi" precinct was probably located, in reference to the 1820 U.S. Census for (old) Feliciana Parish?
I would think it was probably along the Mississippi River, but would like an opinion from someone "in the know".
This would have included the areas of present-day East and West Feliciana parishes.
As a process of elimiantion, here is a list of all the enumeration precints that were listed in the 1820 census for Feliciana Parish:
Bigg Bayou Sarah
Little Bayou Sarah
Red Wood Creek
Can anyone recognize which of these belong present-day East or West Feliciana Parish, and then guess where the Mississippi precinct probably was?
Thanks for your attention!
Q) Can anyone confirm where the records for old Felishiana Parish are kept?
Q) Besides the Federal census, was a Louisiana Territorial Census taken between 1810 and 1830?
Q) Does anyone know of any compiled land record abstracts for old Feleshiana Parish?
Q) Also, is anyone in that area able to do lookups? I would gladly pay someone to examine old land records, etc.
This would be before East and West Felishiana Parishes were formed in 1824. I seem to remember someone telling me older records are at St. Francisville in W. Felishiana, but I want to know for sure.
I am looking for a man named Baptiste Vincent Laval/Lavall/LaValle, etc. I think he is probably the B. Laval in Feliciana Parish in the 1820 U.S. Census.
I've already had someone look in some secondary sources for the man I am researching, but no luck. However, I don't know if there are other compiled resources they missed, and I do not think they looked at any land records.
Thanks for any advice!
