My Grandmother, Daisy Mondell Ray Lattea, age 97, passed away at 2:00 p.m.
this afternoon. She was an avid quilter, and enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She made her granddaughters ponchos, scarfs and bedroom slippers. When we
married, she crocheted us doilies for our furniture. Several years ago, she made
me about 7 pair of baby booties to give to my children when they had new
babies. She worked in the two restaurants in Salem, WV about 20 years ago, baking,
and was well known locally for her delicious pies. She taught her
granddaughters to crochet and knit (even the left-handed ones) and enjoyed playing
dominoes with some of her great-grandchildren (my two youngest) and beat them most
of the time. She always enjoyed pranks and never missed getting into the
water fights in her kitchen at most Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. We will
surely miss her.
