Remembrance Day - November 11, 2005:
A reference on LATTA-L resulted in interesting email contacts that brought back memories
of events long ago, and resulted in exchanging email info with some Lattas who served in a
long forgotten war in Korea during the early 1950's.
A photo on a website of an unnamed Australian soldier taken during the Korean war resulted
in contact with Cameron Latta in Australia - the photo is his father, Garth Latta. Other
email contacts were with Lattas who had served with the US forces in Korea. (One contact
said he liked serving alongside Canadian troops as they usually had a bottle of whiskey to
share with their American cousins.)
My brother-in-law, John, was a decorated soldier while serving with the Canadian forces in
Korea. (His battalion received a 'Presidential Citation for Bravery' signed by
Harry Truman - the only foreign unit to ever receive this award.) And so it goes. A
"Band of Brothers" from far away places.
... thanks to LATTA-L for some interesting contacts ...
