Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
9 JAMES POLK (4) LATTA
John (3) William (2) Unknown (1). Born near Ashland, Ohio October 31, 1844;
d. in Rochester, Minnesota on September 11, 1911 and buried in Tekamah
Cemetery, Burt County, Nebraska; m. Libbie Jonas in Jackson Co., Iowa
November 28, 1870. Went with parents to Jackson Co. in 1846. He was a
Nebraska Democratic politician. In 1863 went to Bert Co., Neb. He farmed
and raised stock in Burt County, Nebraska, eventuality becoming interested
in banking. Taught school in Tekamah, Neb. Elected to Congress 61st and 62d
sessions. Elected to Nebraska House of Representatives in 1887 and was
State senator in 1907. Organized and was president 1st National Bank of
Tekamah in 1890 until his death in Mayo Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Also
interested in several other banks. A Knight Templar Mason. Owned over 5000
acres of land and raised stock.
1897 - Oakland Independent Newspaper Extracts, Burt Co., NE - INJURY:
Latta, J. P.: Oct. 15, 1897: p 8: c 1: Tekamah. Almost fatal accident when
helping to remove a corn crib on one of his farms. Fell on him, a 2x6 piece
held the crib from instantly killing him. Removed unconscious, badly
injured, but thought to live.
17 EDWARD (5) b. April 12, 1873; d. Oct. 6, 1925; buried Tekamah Cemetery,
Burt County, Nebraska.
45 DON (5) d. in 1880 aged 7 years.
18 BURR (5) Born October 31, 1879.
