I have been back on the Latta family again, and am confused about this
Branch 20, a James Latta who married Elizabeth, on the Branch 20 file it
shows he was born April 3 1785 , but the cemetery inscription I found at the
library from a book Ohio Cemetery Records, Extracted from The Old Northwest
Genealogy Quarterly, published 1984, shows James died 1826 at the age of
52y, and his wife Elizabeth died 1854 at the age of 73y 13d. This would
make them born about, James, 1774 and Elizabeth about 1771. Now, this will
work with the theory that James is from William Latta branch 1, as his
children were born during this time period. Now, as for my
Mary(possible)Latta, she was also supposed to have been born around 1770,
buried at the cemetery, Mary wife of John Starrett, d, Mar 7 1855 age 85y. I
don't find a daughter to this William Latta (Branch 1) by the name Mary,
but there is a Mayor Cotter, does anyone have anything on this daughter,
could she have been a Mary?? I still have no proof that the Mary who married
John Starrett, was a Latta. Thanks, and sorry this is so long, Katy

Our cranky subscriber responded:
"some innocent mug who wont get annoyed buy these pestering emails."
Today, I received this response from him... I found out that he works
mentoring children, so I had asked him if he mentored these children on
how to be as rude as he is?
Here's his response, and then it's followed by a response that I just
actually sent to him....

Now, my response...
I would have to say that I, myself....... and many others on the Latta
list-serv, are not impressed with your responses. Another member
apparently got a rude response from you when they posted an update on
how Paul Calhoun is doing... another member got a rude response from
you when they posted about birthday cards for their 89 year old Latta
If you feel that you are not intending to be misunderstood, then you,
perhaps, should revamp the way you word your emails. This way, us
fellow Lattas will not be so 'put-off' by your responses.
You are obviously subscribed to the Latta group, or you would not have
received my original question about address changes. In the first
place, I had only sent an email to LATTA-L(a)rootsweb.com and only people
who are subscribed to it would have received my email. You are
obviously subscribed under the 'individual format' and not the 'digest
format' or you wouldn't have been so quick to respond.
Coincidentally, you are a Latta, therefore I find it hard to believe
that you mistakenly/coincidentally received my email, and that you are
not aware of how you received my email, or even what the Latta List
Group is all about...????
Personally, I would have asked, if by chance, someone else in your
household was subscribed to it, and you weren't aware of it... but
since it is your work email address that you used to email me, and it is
your work email that is subscribed to the List with, this theory
Now, as for your questions.... Who am I??? I am a Latta family member,
(and proud to be one!!!!) and I am from Ontario, Canada. I am from
Branch #13... What branch are you from? (Get ready, Lattas!! Somebody
must hereby officially claim this man!!! Any volunteers?)
Anyways, my original question about address changes was not originally
intended to upset or offend anyone, and generally, us Lattas are a
cheery bunch on the List. I did not mean to bring any gloom to the List
by exposing someone's attitude problem....
So, Charles, and everyone else.... get on with your day..... and make
it a happy one, okay???
Oh yes, Charles, in response to your question, "What is a
spell-checker?" Well, if you are using Netscape Communicator for your
mail, then at the top, click 'tools,' then 'check spelling,' and
VOILA..... simple!!!! And don't forget to check http://www.latta.org
if you truly don't know how important us Lattas are :-)

Earlier today, May 28, I had sent a question to the Latta List, to
hopefully enquire as to who I should send my address change to.
Apparently, we have a subscriber somewhere who was not too receptive to
my "pestering" emails...... Below is the response I got from, uh,
Personally, I am sorry if I offended anyone, including Charles, by
asking such an innocent question..... and thank-you, Gary... for
giving me the information!!!!

I am trying to find out about Anna Hockenbury,b PA 1793, who married John latta then moved to West VA and on to Monroe County, Ohio. She was still living when her husband John's will was probated there in 1866. Children: Julia A. (Latta) Poole, Lucinda (Latta) Mercer, George Madison Lattea, Abel or James Abel Latta, Samuel Seymore Latta, Catharine (Latta) Morris, Sarah Jane (Latta) Nalley, John Copeland (my g. grf.) Latta.
Is there anyone out there who knows of my gr gr grandmother?
Thanks, Betty (Latta) Kitchen
Looking for more information on my Aunt Lou and hopefully her descendants. She is the Louisa on the census below. She was born in Monroe County, dau of John Copeland and Mary Jane (Morris) Latta, in 1871. Married Chris Matz. About 1917 they moved to Ashland, Ohio.
Any help would be appreciated.--betty

Just looked at a picture from the Calais Cemetery in Monroe county, OHIO, and saw a tombstone for BURRIS. I am looking for the parents of Mary Burris. THIS MARY Adelia Burris born 1873, died 1950, was married to Thomas Leroy LATTA on October 4, 1894. She taught school at Calais, Miltonsburg and Fox Hollow. Their only child died in infancy. I have some of the class folders with her picture on them. I have some post cards sent to the mother of Tom Latta in the early 1900's signed J.L. and Myrtle Burris so these may be her relatives.
Surely someone knows her family??????
PS Several of you did express interest in the School Picture of the kids at Fox Hollow about 1894. (She is not in this one, but her future husband was the teacher.) If anyone else would like this picture attached to them, please let me know.
Hi! I am looking for Connie Latta who sent me a story about finding her
ancestor Andrew Jackson Latta, who died in Feb. 1919 in Yuma, AZ. Please
email me privately.

Hello Latta cousins and fellow listers,
My Aunt Jan, granddaughter of John Copeland Latta and Mary Jane Morris Latta, is having her 89th birthday June lst. Although she is in a nursing home and confined to a wheel chair, her mind is sharp as a tack and she somehow maintains a zest for life. I am hoping that some of you would be willing to add a little perk to her day by sending her a birthday card. There certainly are some very caring Latta relatives out there. Obviously, if you don't want to, just delete this. But some of you will, God bless.
