Dottie, Did you recognize the Joseph Latta, about whom I posted last week?
Is he part of branch 15?

A couple more miscellaneous Lattas who served in the Civil War. I recently
received info from the Missouri State Archives about these two, who were
"Missouri Soldiers (1861-1865) War Between the States"
Pvt. Co. H, 8th Mo. Inf. Final disposition not found of record. Last
appears on a list of men who were absent from their commands, under Cooper's
command in the Cavalry, Feb. 16/64. (Card in the War Department)
Latta, William W.
Pvt. Co. L, Captain Preston, Enlisted March 10, 1862 at Battle Creek,
Michigan. Mustered in Nov. 24 1862 at Detroit Michigan. Mustered out Sept.
19, 1865, at Nashville Tennessee. (Might he related to the Alexander Latta,
a Missouri Soldier who died in Michigan (without children) whose pension
papers I have?)
Might Nashville, TN be a clue here? There was a Latta researcher in
Nashville who was looking for a Michigan connection several years ago. Are
you still out there?
If anyone is interested in either of these, I can give you the identifying
numbers and/or send you a copy of the papers.

Some of you must have guessed by now that I'm looking through old Latta
For those who are looking for a Joseph Latta, I found an incomplete
reference that I have never had time to investigate.
In the book "Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914, volume III", by Marjorie Hood
Fischer & Ruth Blake Burns. published by Ram Press, 1239 Coventry road,
Vista, CA 92084.
On pages 64 & 65, there is a reference to a will for James Chambers, died
before 10SEP1827. If I read the abbreviations correctly, this will was in
Carroll County, TN. Unfortunately, the copy that I have is blurred and
can't be read in its entirety. It ends with a reference to "the County of
Orange in the state of North Carolina to James Chambers". And then notes
the division (of property, I presume) was to William Crutchfield (married
one of James' daughters), JOSEPH LATTA (did he also marry one of James'
daughters?), and Polly Chambers.
If anyone is interested in this, and you don't have access to the book (and
I don't, you might write to one of the genealogical societies in Tennessee
or to the Tennessee State Archives.

I picked up an orange County CA Gen'l Soc. journal for 25 cents the other
day because it contained a reference to a Latta. The article was:
"Minnesota in the Civil & Inidian Wars 1861-1865"
In the Second Battery of Light Artillery, mustered into service during the
winter of 1861-1862 was listed
HUGH H. LATTA
If you are interested in Minnesota Lattas during this period, I'd be happy
to send you the entire journal for the cost of the postage. Just let me

Regarding your two questions today: Mary G. Guthrie married Samuel Rankin Latta, Br. #5. This may not be the same Mary. Patsy Moore married James Latta, no Br. #. See Note #G. Any help?
Regarding finances, take the $5.00 from each sale and apply it to Research. The balance of what you have on hand please apply it to my Newsletter contribution. Anything else that comes in can be saved, except the $5.00 portion, which should be deposited to research as it comes in.
I have an interesting article about the three Latta brothers that climbed the Lions mountain in 1903. Br. #34. I will forward this shortly by Wells Fargo.
Thanks. Alex. Latta, Br. #16
Hi, I have two miscellaneous Lattas in Tennessee. These may be related to
my branch 22, but I haven't tied that down. They are:
ROBERT S. LATTA, license to marry. Mary G. Guthrie, 6DEC1852. married by Wm
A. Hall, 9DEC1852. Robert might be an older son of Branch 22 James Latta
who was living in Gibson County TN at that time, but I have no proof.
J.G. LATTA, who married P.L. Moore in Gibson County TN , according to
license dated 24 SEPT 1885.
Anyone looking for one of these as an ancestor?
