I descend from John Latham/Lathan/Leathem of Lancaster County, SC. I do not
know John's birthdate, but he was in the Revolutionary War. His pension
records are on file in S. C. Archives under the name John Leathem/ Latham.
In the pension records, his wife is named as Margaret. This would be his
second wife and surviving widow. The pension papers give the date of death
as 12 Oct. 1831.
I descend from his daughter Sarah who married Thomas Oates of Gaston County,
NC. They attended Pisgah ARP Church and are buried in their old cemetery.
Any help in connecting with the ancestors or more fully understanding the
family will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Re:Lathan's in north east England
I've been tracing my north east ancestry for about 12 years now (since i was
about 14) and one of the names i'm tracing is Lathan. My 2x great
grandmother was a MARY ELIZABETH LATHAN who was born in 1852 at Southwick,
Sunderland, England. The family originated from Northumberland, mainly from
Hexham. The majority of the Sunderland Lathan's stayed in Southwick which
has made tracing them reasonably easy. I'm currently doing a Lathan north
east one name study where i aim to connect all Lathan's in the north east.
I've written to all the Lathan's in the area and the tree is growing all the
time. If you'd like me to send you a copy just ask. If you've come across
any other Lathan researchers in this area please could you let me know.
Ps. My e-mail address is mdoctor10(a)hotmail.com
I'm passing on this request from a fellow Lathan descendant:
Hi. I am looking for a William "Willie" Lathan. All I know is that he was
a Presbyterian preacher in a Great Falls, SC church. He died several years
ago. The reason why I am looking for him is because I want a picture. You
see, my grandpa is his son. He never met him while he was alive. It would
mean so much to him if we could get a picture from one of his relatives. If
you have any information please e-mail me shae8(a)hotmail.com. Thank you
