Hi to everyone! I'm often a bit in awe of Lathan/ams who can trace their
lines back to the 19th or 18thc and beyond because I know so very little
about my folks. So....I'd like to take a big chance and pose the question;Do
any of you have any mulattos in your lines? My family name is Lathen, however
I've never met any Lathens or Lathams and only had an aquaintence with a
Lathan family(who I contacted ,who are of mixed racila heritage-and also
know very little about their people) . More specifically,I am looking for
info on my great grandfather-a John Lathen(an,am?) who lived in the area of
Virginia near Wash.DC in the early 1800's and was Caucasian. My grandfather
was named John William Lathen-He was boorn in Wash.DC in 1875 to a mulatto
woman from Vienna,VA named Lydia Brent. My grandfather was an only child
who, presumably, never met his DAD-altho'he was named for him. My father was
also John William Lathen . He was a psychiatrist born to John William
Lathen,SR. and another mulatto named Mary Ann Gould in northern NJ in 1916.
My Dad was an only child as were both his parents. And finally-I had one
sibling-a brother,John Brent Lathen,MD who passed away in Anchorage,AL at
the age of 47. So....if there is anyone-Lathan specifically who can help me
identify my great grandfather(who was supposedly my great grandma's
employer)I would be most appreciatiove. If anyone has any positiive
suggestions or leads.. PLEASE let me know. I need to find SOME Lathen(an)
Soorry it was necessary to make this message soooo long. Sincerly,K.
