In 1857, my gr gr gr grandmother, Margaret Larkins Lyle married Joseph Blakely in
Washington Co., Ohio. On the same date, Thomas Larkins married Joseph's daughter,
Susannah. I have always believed that Margaret and Thomas were siblings being close in
age and born in Ohio.
Recently I believe I found the same Thomas living with Isaac and Lydia Vandine in
Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio in 1850 where Margaret Larkins Lyle was living with her
husband, Ishmael Lyle (Lysle). According to Jefferson Co., OH marriage records, Isaac
Vandine was married to Lydia Larkins in 1844. In 1860, Lydia was living Washington Co.,
OH where Thomas and Margaret were married in 1857.
According to Margaret's 1903 death record, she was born in Carrollton, Ohio but that
information is only as accurate as the informant's knowledge.
Per the various census records, Lydia, Margaret and Thomas were all born in the early to
middle 1820s in Ohio. The all lived in the same vicinities in 1850 and 1860. Thomas
lived with Lydia as an unmarried man in 1850 suggesting some familial relationship.
Thomas and Margaret were married on the same day in Washington Co., Ohio suggesting some
Can anyone add any insight to this presumed Larkins family? If Lydia, Margaret and Thomas
were siblings, who were their parents? In 1860, a Sarah Larkins aged 75 was living with
Lydia in Washington Co., OH. I presume Sarah was Lydia's mother. Margaret Larkins
Lyle named her daughter, Sarah, suggesting that Sarah was a family name. Margaret's
son's name was Thomas (same suggestion).
Eventually, Margaret Larkins Blakely resided in Toronto, Jefferson Co., OH where she died.
Children of Thomas Larkins and Lydia Larkins Vandine also were either born or died in
Too many coincidences for a family connection not be be present in my opinion.
