Looking for information on Christopher Herman Lapp b. probably in Blankenheim, Hessen Germany, 12 Nov 1845. Had two sons b. in Germany, Henry b. 1867 and John b. 1870. Possibly m. a Sophia Rieber in Sandusky, Oh in 1874. Married Martha E. Allendorf in Erie Co. Oh in 1877. In the 1880 census they were living in Ottawa Co. Oh. with children Henry age 13, John age 10, George age 2 and Anna M. age 2 mos. Any info appreciated.
Also new to the list, I'll respond to the query re. Cyrus Lapp. My husband descends from the third son, John, mentioned by Steve Lapp as offspring of his "Bucks Co. John". (We think their mother's name was Susannah, b ~1792.) In addition to the Cyrus F. Lapp listed as the son of Elias, (1st son), there was another Cyrus in Northampton Co, E. Allen Twp, in the 1870 census; his birth would have been abt. 1817. Any help?
Thanks for posting. My LAPP line also goes back to Anthony and Lydia and
now that I've learned her father's name I understand that my gggrandfather,
Freeman Gustavius Preston, must have been named after Freeman
Burley!! What is the name of the book that you mentioned, by Winston
Martin and Harris Lapp?

Thanks Steve, I believe these are mine. I will check Durham Co. 1851 census.
I might try and see if I can still get that book on Lapps you mentioned.
I'll see if FHL has it filmed. Peg
I have recently begun researching my Lapp line in earnest. I don't have
much yet, but would like to know if anyone has any information or connection
with these people:
Ernst Dietrich LAPP, resided Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany.
married to Dorothea Sophia SCHNEIDER.
Their son: Wilhelm LAPP, born 3 Sep 1799 in Frankfurt am Main, Hessen,
Germany, married Sophia Elisabeth SCHMIDT on 28 Oct 1829, died 30 Mar 1867
in Frankfurt am Main.
They had four children that I know of:
1-Magdalena Katharina(my great great grandmother) 15 June 1834-19 Sep 1910,
married Philipp GEHRING on 1 July 1857 in Frankfurt.
2-Maria Elisabetha 15 June 1834-18 Feb 1913
4-Johann Friedrich Jakob 19 Apr 1841- 20 Sep 1911, married Anna Maria
GUENTHER on 4 July 1867 in Frankfurt.
Any help greatly appreciated.

CAN SOMEONE TELL WHERE TO GO FOR THIS INFOR, MY LAPP WAS IN LEIGHT COUNTY PA
BARBARA DEETZ WILDER
In "Amish and Amish Mennonite Genealogies" by Gingerich and Kreider,
Barbara Lapp b. June 1768 and married to DAvid Kurtz is listed as the third child of Michael and Mary Lapp [my ancestors - I believe she was Mary ZOOK]. Esther is not listed as a child - but if you have proof she was sister to Barbara, than Esther is most likely an undocumented daughter of Michael and Mary Lapp. Michael's sixth listed child Mary married Abraham Kurtz, son of John and Catharine Kurtz - but there are several question marks here.
As you know, these early Amish and Mennonite families are difficult to document. Hope this helps. Steve in Texas.

Hello Peg, Winston Martin and Harris Lapp compiled much Lapp info. in
1983, and I purchased a copy from
them in about 1985. The following is from that
Anthony [LAPP] son of Jeremiah & Amy, b.1790 in New York , came to Ont.
at age 1, he married Lydia Burley c.1818; she was dau. of Freeman Burley
of Ernestown (Lennox Co.).
In 1819 Anthony [LAPP] acquired lot 30, conc.3 Otanabee Twp. on Feb.26.
He lived at Thurlow. In 1832 he sold and was in Hamilton Twp census in
1834. By 1840 in Darlington Twp. (Durham CO.) Lydia acquired lot 24,
conc.1, Otanabee Twp. Sept. 29, 1824 (Peterboro Co.).
By 1829 they had 3 sons and 5 girls; they may be:
Richard, Samuel, Jerry or Justin, a dau. married to Rev. Williams, Peter
1823 Moulton Twp. married to Sarah,
Betsy 1823 was single in 1871, Naomi m. Nathanial Saunders in 1848,
Elias 1816 (acc. tro Durham Co. 1851 census) married Sarah and had at
least two dau. Rosanna and Emilina,
Ann c.1825 married James Caswell 1846.
I only have three people, in all my files, with the surname of Lapp. The two
women I mentioned, and a John Lapp with no dates or places, who m. Anna
Kurtz, d/o Joseph and Veronica Miller, b. 1805 in Whiteland Twp., Chester
Do you have any connections with Andrew Lapp, born in Pennsylvania about
1800? Andrew married Anna Cipp.
Thanks in advance,
Mary Ystad Curran

Here's an outline of a Lapp family that I haven't been able to connect to the
other Lapp families in Allen Co., IN. Wilhelm emigrated from Germany in
1885, according to census records. The Stellhorn connection leads me to
believe that he may have been related to the other Lapp families in Allen
Co., since there was another Lapp-Stellhorn marriage in those families. Of
course, it could also just be that they were all part of the German immigrant
community in the area.
Can anyone help with additional information on this Lapp line?

I am new to this list so I thought I'd post my interests right off the git-go.
My 3rd ggrandmother was Caroline Elinore LAPP b. 02 January 1814 in
Earnestown, ON. She married Jeremiah B. PRESTON in 1835 (b. Haldimand,
Northumberland Co., ON) they eventually migrated to Jackson Co., WI.
Caroline's parents were Anthony and Lydia LAPP "of Canada West"
I believe that Anthony may be "Anthony J. LAPP" son of Jeremiah Lapp and
Amy Smith. (Tree #3266, World Family Tree Vol. 2, Ed. 1)
If anybody has links to this family I would be happy to be in touch...

Anna Catherine Lapp (b. 1849 in Germany)came to US abt 1867 and m. Henry Reis. They lived in the Vermilion Oh. area.
Sophia Lapp (b. 1839 in Germany) m. John Leimbach and lived in Lorain Co. Oh. Sophia died in 1875.
Our new administrator, being a relative, has signed me up for this list!
My Lapp ancestry is similar to Wilson's in that my Great grandfather was
Henry Lapp. His daughter Clara Lapp Hobrock was my maternal grandmother,
My mother was Mary Martha Hobrock John, raised in Fort Wayne Indiana.
I am strongly interested in geneology and am the "keeper" in my family's
"stuff". But I make no claims to be anything other than a complete novice.
I will enjoy reading other's posts..

Hello Wilson - Thanks for taking over the Rootsweb LAPP list.
I descend from some of the first LAPPs to settle in North America.
My oldest confirmed LAPP ancestor (with some slight room for doubt) is Michael Lapp of Berks and Chester Counties in early Pennsylvania, born about 1737 or earlier. I believe almost all of the AMISH Lapps descend from Michael; the Mennonite Lapps of Erie Co. NY also descend from Michael. Early records reveal two John Lapps living in Pennsylvania at
the same time , circa 1745. One I call "Berks Co. John Lapp", possibly the father of Michael, or possibly 'Johannes Michael Lapp'. The other
I call "Bucks Co. John Lapp" ; he is the progenitor of many Mennonite
Lapp families, including, I believe, the family of Abraham Lapp who moved to Rockingham Co. VA with wife Elizabeth, and then moved from there to Ontario, CANADA, where his sons Samuel and Martin then moved on to Illinois.
Unfortunately, the documentation for much of this is sketchy, with
little primary evidence (the early Amish and Mennonites kept few records). And even more unfortunately, inaccurate and unsupported information and conclusions about these early Lapps have been published and perpetuated for over 60 years or more.
Hopefully, this will be a forum for posting primary evidence of our ancestry, and for correcting past errors.
Sincerely, Steve Lapp, formerly of San Francsico but now living on a farm near Hondo TEXAS.
