Gordon Callon's resources remind me of another Lanier/Bassono source.
Susanne Woods compiled an edition of Aemilla (Bassano) Lanier's
poetry--published through Oxford University Press in NY, 1993. The intro
contains info on the Laniers.
In an email she told me that she had made corrections in an article:
"Aemilia Lanyer and Ben Jonson", Ben Jonson Journal, Vol. 1, 1994,
esp. pages 16-18. She also noted that the most useful single genealogical
device that she found for tracing Laniers was the International Genealogical
Index (published by the Church of the Latter Day Saints). I think this may
be available on the web for those of you who subscribe to Ancestry.com
Woods suggested look for variant spellings: Lanier, Laniere, Lanyer, and
Laneer being the most common.
