I have received a few messages over the last week asking about the status
of the Lanier reprint. I want to give everyone a further update, and
hopefully, to manage a few expectations as well.
I wrote to the list on October 29 to say that the book was printed and
something to the effect of "ready to go in a few days."
Indeed most Lanier orders received to date have been mailed out. The first
mailing was November 10.
In my original message announcing the reprint Sept 13 I said:
"WHEN WILL YOU GET THE BOOK?
"I hope to be able to mail the books starting around October 15. If so,
they may be able to arrive in the US by surface by Christmas. However I
cannot promise that."
Unfortunately, a few people are jumping the gun, asking me why they haven't
received the book NOW.
Note that the book went out 25 days after October 15, the hoped mail date.
So today I am writing to say that no one should expect their copy before
Jan 20, 25 days after Christmas (I hope some of you will be pleasantly
surprised by receiving it earlier.).
Also note that up until today, I have deposited no one's check for the
book, although I have processed and mailed more than 30 orders. Also
please remember, dear Lanier researchers, that I am currently sitting on a
US$2,000 loss on this reprint.
I hope to have every order I am holding mailed before Friday, when I am
going on a 3 week trip to France, including Rouen, the home of Nicholas I
I feel I have done the very best I could given my busy work schedule. If
there is anyone out there who wants a refund, and whose book(s) have not
been mailed out as of today, I will gladly give it. (Mostly this would
cover orders sent to me since Nov 1). Please write me within the next day
Otherwise, your patience in waiting for your copy of the Lanier book is
