Hi Linda , Here is the information I have onChesmore and West: HISTORY: After Floyds
father,Charlie, left for Montana, Floyd remained in the Banner area, staying with various
families there, including some years with three bachelors. Mr. Sherman, Mr. Perkins and
Shortiy. Floyd homesteaded on Box Elder Creek near Across, proving up on his homestead in
1916. In March 1917, he married Artie West Wolfe at Sheridan. Artie was born at Story,
the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Harvey a pioneer resident of Story. They lived on Box
Elder with brief periods spent on Lower Piney and Across until 1935, when they moved to
western Montana. Floyd died in 1961 and is buried at Buffalo, Wyoming. His widow (in
1983) is living with a daughter in Sheridan.
HOMESTEAD: Floyd Chesmore Homestead was on Box Elder and he sold out to John Belus in
1935. Was married to Attie Wolfe. Was cowboy and freighter.
OBITUARY: Buffalo News 23 Feb 1961: Funeral services for Floyd A. Chesmore, 68, who died
Feb 19 at Cottonwood, Arizona, were held Friday p.m. Feb. 24 1961 from the Adalms Funeral
Home with the Rev. E. K. Morrow officiating. Burial was in Willow Grove Cemetery. Active
pallbearers were David Fowler, Leon Hawkey, Labe Burris, Rolla Burris, Ira Frances, and
Robert Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Olen Fowler, John Kumor, Lester Slurdevant,
Walter Hawkey, and Harry M. Johnson.
Mr. Chesmore was born July 9, 1892 at Ludell, Kansas, and came to Northern Wyoming as a
small child. In 1935 he and his family moved to St Ignatius, Mt. , where they lived until
1942 when they moved to Florence Mt.
Since 1952 Mr. and Mrs. Chesmore have made their home in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife Attie, of Camp Verde, Arizona one step-son Earl Wolfe of
Victor, Mt., five daughters, Mrs. Lena Wolff of Bannor, Mt., Mrs. Helen Elbert of
Maryville, Mt., Mrs. Jean Lea of Henderson, Nev., Mrs. Mary Johnson of Buffalo, Wyo. and
Mrs. Emily Fletcher of Claremont, Calif., 12 grandchildren, two brothers Preston of
Alliance, Nebr, and Lemuel of Roberts Mt. and 3 sisters, Mrs. Lena Foster of Dresden,
Mont., Mrs. Hattie Heron and Mrs. Winnie Parsons both of Sacramento, Ca.
OBITUARY: Former Resident, Floyd Chesmore, Died in Arizona - A former Johnson county
rancher, Floyd A. Chesmore, 68 died Sunday, Feb 19, at Cottonwood, Ariz, following a
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 pm from the Adams Funeral Home. Burial will
be in Willow Grove cemetery.
Mr. Chesmore was born July 8 1892 in Kansas and ranched on Box Elder, northeast of Buffalo
for many years. He moved to Montana in 1935 where he ranched until his retirement 10
years ago, when he moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., where he has made his home.
He is survived by his wife, Addie West Chesmore of Apache Junction, Ariz,. one step-son,
Earl Wolfe of Victor, Mont.; five daughters, Helen Lebert, of Maxville, Mont., Mrs. Jean
Lea of Hendersonville, Nev., Mrs. Mary Johnson of Buffalo. Mrs. Lena Wolff of Patomic,
Mont., and Mrs. Emily Fletcher of Clarmont, Calif.
A son, Floyd was killed in action in Belgium in World War II.
Information on Addie West Chesmore. DEATH: Attie Chesmore Born 19 Oct 1893, Died Aug
1983, Residence Sheridan, Sheridan, WY SSN 526-78-3211 Issued Arizona. I haven't sent
for her obituary.
