Kent, your story is touching and beautiful. About the car bit. I know in the
when be bought our first Chevy, 1954, 2 door, white and melon, we took a LOT
of pics. We were so proud of that car!
I can't help but share a "car memory" of mine.
Over a period of several years, I endeavored to get my father (who was in
his early 80s and lived 200 miles from me) to make a tape recording of his
memories of his life for his children and grandchildren to enjoy. He was the
genealogist in the family and eventually he agreed to do it.
After two failed attempts (the first didn't record and the second was lost
when my car was stolen) he told me that he had finished the project!
Unfortunately, before I was able to pick the tape up to make the additional copies,
my father died. After the funeral, the first thing I looked for in his
apartment was the tape and duplicates were immediately made. It was several weeks
before I was able to listen to this long awaited for paternal history. I
smile even now remembering how "warm fuzzy" it made me feel to hear my
voice tell of his life, with the "chapters" being "headed" by the
make of car that he had just purchased. I only wish that he had taken some
